QYMA 2016
The countdown is on!

We're getting very excited about this year's Queensland Youth Music Awards running from Wednesday 4 May -  Wednesday 1 June (sections held weekday evenings).

Entries close on Monday 7 March and we encourage as many schools as possible to get involved as it truly is a wonderful opportunity for young people to perform music in such an encouraging environment.

In this eNewsletter we're pleased to announce new venues for QYMA, allowing more opportunities for schools across greater Brisbane to get involved. We also provide you with our updated preliminary schedule.

We encourage you to share this newsletter with conductors that might be interested in entering the competition, with some great choral and instrumental sections for primary and secondary schools, and fantastic prizes to match!

We also continue to seek supporters for this event, with lots of ongoing opportunities available. If you would like to assist, please don't hesitate to get in touch, or simply just spread the word! Details of how to be involved are in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please email us or phone 07 3367 1001.

Let's make QYMA's 49th year the best one yet!

Until next time...

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT QYMA!
"Our choir from Matthew Flinders Anglican College thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the experience at QYMA and loved listening to all the amazing choirs from Queensland. We found the experience very rewarding as we have been working very hard on our repertoire and enjoyed showcasing our songs to the audience."

- Rachael and Georgia, Matthew Flinders Anglican College Captains, 2015.

"This is the third year we have competed in this competition as we very much enjoy the organisation, professionalism and standard of competition that it provides."

- Jenny Moon, the Hillcrest Bel Canto Choir, Hillcrest Christian College.

(Comments received in a letter of thanks to Brisbane Chorale who sponsored the above choirs' sections)

"The Eagle Junction State School Junior Choir performed well at QYMA this year and was awarded a Silver Certificate and 3rd Place overall. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition. It gave us the opportunity to improve on our performance and technical skills and to watch other choirs perform.
"

- Christine Shume, Eagle Junction State School.

ABOUT US

The Queensland Youth Music Awards is an independent non-profit organisation launched in 1994.

Previously operating for 16 years as The Pine Rivers Music Contest for Primary and Secondary Schools and prior to that as a Talent Quest run by Ashgrove/The Gap Methodist Churches, it now caters for around 200 ensembles and choirs from different schools throughout South East Queensland. This makes the competition one of the largest school music eisteddfods in our state.

The QYMA is now managed by Voices of Birralee, a leading Australian, Brisbane-based non-profit child and youth choral organisation.
