EARLY CHILDHOOD SURVEY

Bergen commune provides a survey tool for all early childhood centres in Bergen. ISB parents with children in the ECC will receive an e-mail next week with a link to the survey. Last year, only 37% of parents responded and it was difficult for us to interpret the results. We are encouraging all parents to complete the survey this year.

SCHOOL FACEBOOK PAGE

Don’t forget to check out the ISB Facebook page for up to date details on class field trips and schoolwide events!

WHAT’S NEW ON THE ISB WEB SITE?

Most recently, a new section has been added to the school web site giving information about the various standardized tests students take, national and international, and student performance in these at Grade 5 and 9 levels. Check this out here

We have also added a “downloads” section to make it easier to access our various handbooks regarding curriculum, general information and supply lists.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD NIGHT

Join us for International Food Night!

PTO invites all parents and care givers of the children at the International School of Bergen to join us for a night of food and fun as we learn about each other's cultures with our favorite foods.

The only requirement to attend is to bring a dish to share. Feel free to be as creative or as minimalist as you'd like in presenting your dish. You could make a display about your dish or home country, or just bring a favorite comfort food. It can be an appetizer, main course, dessert or anything in-between. Hot and cold drinks, plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, bring 20kr if you'd like to purchase a ticket.

RSVP's by March 3rd to Heather Hustoft with the dish you are bringing and the number of adults and children that will be attending.

CHANGES TO EMERGENCY SERVICES LOCATION IN BERGEN
As of December 1, the new accident and emergency clinic in central Bergen for both adults and children has moved to Solheimsgaten 9. There is no longer a special evening emergency clinic for children at Haukeland Hospital, but children will be given priority in the afternoons and evenings with a pediatric doctor from 16:00 to 23:00. (More information about the changes to the emergency services for children in Norwegian here). The new telephone number to the accident and emergency clinic is 116 117.

We try to inform ISB families about local events through our weekly newsletter or on the Parent Notice Boards. If you would like to submit any items for this, please hand them in to the school office no later than Wednesday afternoon. Thank you.

FINALLY... SECURITY MATTERS!

As part of our current focus on security issues, new entry systems are being installed on the student entrances to both the main school building and the Early Childhood Centre. These systems will control entry for those wishing to access the school buildings during the school day.

In the main building, student access to the toilets under the shelter are now restricted to break times only. Indoor toilet facilities have been made available in the main building to all students for those in need during class time.

A new SMS-based communications system has been introduced and was successfully tested last week with a test-run restricted to staff only. We will be testing this with parents shortly, so please ensure that if you have made any changes to your cellphone details since the beginning of the school year that the school office has these. Please e-mail the school office if your details have changed.
