Welcome to the next update from the National Best Practice Unit for Tackling Indigenous Smoking (NBPU TIS). The NBPU TIS online resources are currently being finalised and will be launched in March. We will provide weekly updates to grant recipients in this format until the formal launch. Feel free to contact us as outlined below.
Consultations update
Consultation visits have continued throughout last week and have been extremely productive with warm welcomes received from the teams at Dubbo and Griffith. Meeting with the CEOs and the TIS Teams have been very fruitful and informative for Desley. Throughout Desley’s travels around the country so far, there are some great teams out there doing such wonderful work.
This week Desley will be visiting the great States of Victoria and Tasmania where meetings will be held in Melbourne, Dandenong and Lakes Entrance and then on to Launceston.
Although Desley has been travelling a bit, and is well and truly over half way with her rounds of consultation visits, she is always available to take any enquiries from organisations. The best way to make contact is via email: info@tacklingindigenoussmoking.com.au or phone 1800 282 624.
WORKSHOP INFORMATION
Along with co-ordinating the consultation visits, the NBPU TIS Team is now organising the National Workshop for May. The agenda is slowly coming together to ensure we have accommodated for a constructive two days workshop where organisations can go away feeling they have learnt some new things, enjoyed themselves through meeting new people and value added to the success of the TIS program. So we hope all CEOs and Program Managers have pencilled the dates, 11th and 12th of May 2016, in their diaries.

The NBPU TIS can assist organisations with TIS-related matters, such as:
- accessing research, information and resources on tobacco control
- developing Action Plans for TIS activities
- developing performance indicators and monitoring the impact of TIS activities
- accessing relevant training and networking opportunities (such as brief intervention training, smoking cessation workshops)
The NBPU TIS is not expected to assist with organisational matters such as business administration or governance.
