Sherry's March Writing News

Welcome to the March edition of my newsletter! It could be a while since you signed up, but you really did. Keep reading to find out what's new. There's quite a lot happening this month and next!

Rogues Bundle

I'm pretty thrilled to be a part of this exciting book bundle, which is on sale now for the incredible price of 99 cents! It's put together by Tyche Books, and includes my novel, One's Aspect to the Sun, along with six other novels from authors Michael Wallace, Daniel Arenson, Rebecca M. Senese, Jamie Grey, and Edward W. Robertson. I have this bundle on my Kindle right now and I'm excited to delve into the books!

One's Aspect to the Sun (Tyche Books, 2013) is the first book in my Nearspace series (although you can read it as a standalone book--no cliffhangers!). It was named Speculative Fiction Book of the Year for 2013 by the Alberta Publisher's Association. If you haven't read it yet, here's a bit about it:

Captain Luta Paixon of the far trader Tane Ikai needs to know why she looks like a woman in her thirties–even though she’s actually eighty-four. She isn’t the only one desperate for that information.

The explanation might lie with her geneticist mother, who disappeared over sixty years ago, but even if her mother is still alive, it’s proving to be no small task to track her down in the vast, wormhole-ridden expanse of Nearspace. With the ruthless PrimeCorp bent on obtaining Luta’s DNA at any cost, her ninety-year-old husband asking for one last favor, and her estranged daughter locking horns with her at every turn, Luta’s search for answers will take her to the furthest reaches of space–and deep inside her own heart.

I've received lovely reviews on this book, from people who like the adventure and people who like the family element, so if you're into scifi/space opera, you might want to give this one a try. The series continues in Dark Beneath the Moon (Tyche Books, 2015). Watch for something new in Nearspace in 2017...

Authorgraph

I recently joined Authorgraph, so it's now possible to get a digital signature to go with ebook versions of my books. It's kind of fun (and free!), so check out the service at https://www.authorgraph.com/

The Apprentice Files

This collection of four fantasy short stories started out as a Kickstarter perk, but it will soon be available at Amazon and Kobo on its own. If you already own a copy of my short story collection, To Unimagined Shores, then you already have these stories--but if not, you can pick them up as a sampler.

All these stories revolve around my young wizard's apprentice, Albettra, and her ongoing misadventures as she studies under the absent-minded and sometimes annoying wizard, Nissio. "Little Things" was my first published short story, and it seemed I just kept thinking of more adventures for Albettra to have. Suitable for readers from middle grade up, they're a fun look at a young girl's forays into the world of magic.

It's so new I don't have exact links yet, but you'll find it (probably by the time you're reading this newsletter!) on my Author Page at both Amazon and Kobo.

Waiting to Fly

I can't tell you everything about this novella, except that it will be part of a bundle on sale in April. Set in the Nearspace universe, it travels back to a time when wormhole exploration was new and the planets dotting Nearspace were waiting to be colonized.

Teenage orphan Lucy Daz is carving out a busker’s life on Damyadi Space Station, saving what credits she can for passage to one of Nearspace’s new colony worlds. But when a hawker turns up on the station selling a “miracle cure” for space sickness, Lucy is faced with a tough decision: try to ignore to the problem and the pricking of her conscience, or take a big risk to protect the unsuspecting colonists who come to her shows…

More about the bundle, and links to where you'll be able to get it, coming soon! If the release falls outside the normal newsletter schedule, I may send a special alert out to subscribers so you don't miss out.

Colored Pencil Art

I think I shared some of my digital space art in an earlier issue of the newsletter, so this time around I'm giving you a peek at some of my colored pencil art. I haven't picked up the pencils for a while, but a friend's daughter wanted a few lessons, and so...I'm on the way to being hooked again! Although colored pencil is a somewhat slow and meticulous medium, it's very satisfying when a piece turns out the way you hope. For now I'll be sticking to small pieces to see if everything I used to know will come back to me. But coloring is definitely a trend right now, so I thought I'd share a few of the creations I liked the most.

I do love creating art...I think it's because it's a completely different kind of creative activity and lets me exercise some different creative muscles.

Reading Shelf

It's been a bit of a rough winter here, but I still managed to get some reading done. A few recent reads/recommendations are Wrapped by Jennifer Bradbury, The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer, and Ice Limit by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. No serious reading here, just adventure and great fun. You can find more of what I'm reading if you become my friend on Goodreads.

Wrapped (Wrapped, #1) The Opal Deception (Artemis Fowl, #4) Ice Limit

I'd love to hear your book recommendations any time! Reply to this newsletter if you have any for me!
Well, I think I've rattled on enough for this newsletter. Hope you've enjoyed it, and don't forget to check out the Rogues Bundle! Seven novels for 99 cents is a deal too good to miss!

Your support and your thoughts are important to me, so if you have feedback or ideas on what you'd like to see in this newsletter, please reply to this email with your comments. I promise to read them all unless they're boring, nasty, or too long. :)

Feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you think might enjoy it!
