Out and About in the community

Playground Shade Deagon Oval

There is now shade over the playground at the Deagon Oval. There is also shade at the playground at Lambert McBride Park in Zillmere now. I will continue to work with the community to identify playground that require shade. Please get in touch to let me know your suggestions.

Sandgate Swimming Club

I presented a Pier Clock to the Sandgate Swimming Club for their trophy night raffle. I used to swim at Sandgate growing up. My grandfather Stan Cheesman was a life member and coach for many years there also. It's great to see this club still going strong and the future is in very good hands!

Fun 4 All

I have joined forces with the Fun 4 All campaign locally to bring all abilities play equipment to our local area. Local residents Mark and Tamara Wecker approached me with this concept last year and we are full steam ahead now. It's so important to have all abilities play equipment so all children can enjoy our fantastic local parks.

Taigum State School Sport Captains

I had the pleasure of joining with Stirling Hinchliffe and Wayne Swan to present the Taigum State School sports captains badges last week. There were a lot of proud parents in the audience. I know these sports captains and their fellow school leaders will be great leaders in the Taigum community over the coming year. Well done!

Skilling Queenslanders for Work Graduation

Well done to the graduates of the very successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work program being run through SANDBAG. These graduates have obtained a Certificate 1 in construction and have gained a lot of experience for re-entering the workforce.

The program is being rolled out by the State Government people who are unemployed and are seeking employment. These graduates have worked with local community groups and businesses throughout the program and can be proud of the projects they have helped deliver!

Squirrel Gliders to be protected

Rod Harding and I have announced our Kick-Starting Conservation Policy. If elected we will reinstate a dedicated council catchment officer to work with the Northern Catchments Network to ensure this group can continue to do the important work of conservation here on the Northside.

We will also work with The Glider Alliance in implementing our Glider strategy. We will deliver on glider crossings, habitat protection and establish a steering group to oversee this.

We will also partner with other levels of government and agencies to implement a nutrient reduction strategy for our catchments.

This $620,000 strategy will help protect the unique lifestyle and environment we enjoy here on the Northside for generations to come.

Brighton Foreshore Upgrade

Rod Harding and I have announced that the Brighton foreshore would undergo a major facelift, if elected on March 19.

The $10 million upgrade will include a free water park, wider paths and sheltered picnic tables and extended beach areas. Brisbane is the doorway to Moreton Bay, one of Queensland’s most spectacular natural attractions.

Our plan is to help people re-connect with the bay, by providing the right facilities to play, exercise and just relax on the foreshore.
