Can you imagine a day without water? From the bathroom to the kitchen to the laundry to the garden, it is an integral part of our lives. And we SO take it for granted. There are 1.8 billion people around the world without access to safe water and 2.4 billion lack adequate sanitation. More than 840,000 people die each year from water-related diseases. How can you help? Be mindful and grateful of how you use water. Not just on World Water Day (March 22) but every day. Support organizations that are making a difference like Water For People. Buy your next pair of socks from Socks to Give Clean Water by Conscious Step recent partners with Water.org. Each pair provides 18 mos of clean water to someone in need. Yes!

Matt Damon merged his H2O Africa with Gary White's WaterPartners in 2009. The result was Water.org, a nonprofit that has transformed hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia and Central America by providing access to safe water and sanitation. Learn more about the world water crisis and how you can help - watch this well done two minute video by co-founder and activist, Matt Damon.

Money Woes?

Anything we can do to lighten up around money is a good thing. That's why I love this solar calculator from IKEA. Designed by Henrik Johansson, it features big, bright keys that make me smile. It's sturdy yet lightweight and even has a drawer for stashing paper clips. Most of us bank online these days, but there's a fun element to pushing the buttons and figuring totals. Using this "toy" reminds me of playing store as a kid. $14.99 online or in-store.

Bonus: IKEA is partnering with Water.org in support of game changing programs. See what they're doing at WaterCredit in Bangladesh and the New Ventures Fund.

Taming the
Paper Tiger

"How do I get a handle on my paper stuff?!" One of THE most asked questions I get at workshops. People tend to hang on to way more files, receipts, bills, invoices and statements than necessary. This is partly from not knowing how to stay on top of the paper trail and partly from a fear that the copy of whatever might be needed some day. A double whammy that can leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Here's a favorite tip to help move those paper mountains: Clear Your Desk in Simple Steps. Tax time is a perfect opportunity to purge the paper. If you get stuck or have questions, feel free to contact me. Note: Take a before and after shot of your efforts as a reminder of the transformation.

A Clear Brain

The human brain is made up of 95% water. An estimated 75% of Americans have mild, chronic dehydration which upsets mental focus, vision, balance, memory and stamina. Keep your brain clear by drinking water throughout the day beginning with your wake up routine. Caffeine can reverse hydration so go easy on coffee/tea and drink a full glass of water for each cup of java.

Alpha Waves can help counteract the chaos around us.  Here's 3 hours of alpha serenity courtesy of YouTube and YellowBrickCinema. Copy the link and play at home or office for white noise. Great for enhancing concentration and/or deep breathing. Go to my clear brain music.
