ONTARIO RETIREMENT PENSION PLAN (ORPP) UPDATE

Our partners at Green Benefits Group offer up-to-date and helpful resources on the topic of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP).  The ORPP was recently passed into legislation in order to help Ontario workers retire with greater financial security.  The plan aims to provide a predictable source of retirement income based on an employee/employer contribution rate of up to 1.9% each.

Follow this link: http://www.greenbenefitsgroup.ca/ and peruse the ‘GBG Bulletin’ section for the latest information about the ORPP and how it will impact your organization in the near future.

Details and clarifications will continue to surface in the coming months, but employers are encouraged to begin planning for these additional expenses now.  NCHR and Green Benefits Group will monitor these developments closely.

HIRE CO-OP STUDENTS NOW FOR THE SUMMER TERM

College and university students across the province are currently looking for their summer co-op placements.  If your organization is looking for some additional help over the summer months, perhaps to help cover vacation scheduling, to find a rising star in the early stages of their career, or simply for growth reasons, consider contacting the Co-operative Education Department at your local college or university now.

Currently there are thousands of students in Ontario seeking co-operative employment opportunities during the May – August timeframe.  These students have the knowledge and skills to assist virtually every department in your organization.

Co-op students are often inspired contributors, providing a reasonably priced, short-term boost to staffing levels over the summer months.  Act now to ensure your organization connects with the brightest students in Ontario.

CHANGES TO JOINT HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE TRAINING

Most workplaces in Ontario with 20 or more workers are required to have at least one worker and one management representative serve as certified members of a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). This certification process involves training in health and safety law, and the identification, assessment and control of hazards.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has instituted new training requirements for members of your Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) in order for them to become certified.  Effective March 1, 2016, employees seeking certification must enroll in the new certification program and will be required to complete refresher training every 3 years.

For more information about the new training requirements, please click on the following link:
