RGHS Weekly Bulletin 11 March 2016

I hope that most of our Rustenburg community will be able to join together to picnic on our lawns and listen to the music that will be supplied by Fully Covered on Saturday 12 March.  We have beautiful grounds, with the mountain as a stunning backdrop, and are eager to have you all relaxing and unwinding together, having fun and developing a sense of unity.

As our various school activities  wind down towards the end of a busy term, many others are still in the planning stages, or are yet to happen before we finally go on holiday.  A wonderful and successful A-league gala, where we ended in second place, was matched by outstanding performances by, among others, our hockey team in the Spar Challenge and the promise of an exciting season ahead.  Our junior tennis team placed second in the PGSGU end-of-season tournament, which bodes well for the years ahead.

This week started off with an Afrikaans assembly, followed by a visit to the Wordfees in Stellenbosch for our senior girls.  This has been a wonderful opportunity for them to see their setwork book dramatized to be immersed the pure pleasure of theatre productions and to develop an appreciation of our home-grown talent.  Our own Inter-House plays never cease to amaze me, with the number of girls who are involved and some of the abilities and skills that come to the fore (sometimes from quite unlikely and/or unexpected sources, which makes the evening particularly enjoyable).  The evening certainly showcases Rustenburg house spirit at its best and, more importantly, it is the type of occasion and experience that creates fond and lasting memories of one’s high school years.

Three more of the 22 Habits of Unhappy People (www.infobarrel.com) are:
  • Magnification: It is important to think through things objectively rather than blowing things out of proportion
  • Minimisation: We will feel much better (and learn some useful skills) if we resolve our problems, rather than ignore them.
  • Not following through:  We owe it to ourselves to take action, rather than making excuses, in working towards our goals.  Keeping our word and acting on our promises builds trust and respect in our dealings with others.

Family Picnic at Rustenburg with "Fully Covered" - Saturday 12 March 2016

  • Music from 7pm until late;
  • Bring your own picnic, drinks and seating – arrive early to get the best spots.

Rotaract Fun Day

On Saturday, 5 March, a group of enthusiastic Interactors attended Wynberg Rotaract’s annual fun day event for the children of Constantia Primary School.
Interact Clubs from various schools ran their own stall to provide the children with an enjoyable morning of activities. This included gladiator fighting, cupcake decorating, sponge throwing, tug-of-war, and potato sack races. Thank you to Savannah Meyer (C1), Azraa Rawoot (C3), Taryn Joubert (E1) and Areej Gamieldien (E3) for running our stall. The morning was greatly enjoyed by all Interactors, as well as the children of Constantia Primary.
Geography Field Trip: The Grade 10s had a beautiful, sunny day for their Geography fieldtrip.  We travelled around the|Peninsula from Signal Hill to Hout Bay ,looking at the way in which the geology of the area has shaped the landscape and influenced man’s use of the area. The girls worked hard, were impeccably behaved and were a credit to the school.
