Hi <<First Name>>,

I'd like to share some exciting new developments for GovHack 2016! 😊

1. GovHack Growth, Management & Volunteers 📈

Due to our year on year expansion and growth, we've made some changes for this year to better manage our trajectory and better support our participants, volunteers, hosts, sponsors and supporters.

Our national team has had a name change in order to better reflect the awesome work that these volunteers do not just for GovHack in Australia, but internationally.
I'd like to unveil to you our GovHack Global Operations Team all-stars:

Jan Bryson (WA) - Sponsorship
Alysha Thomas (SA) - Competition
Alex Sadleir (ACT) - Technical
Keith Moss (WA) - Data
Sharen Scott (ACT) - Government
Gavin Tapp (ACT) - Advisor

It is a great honour and a privilege to be taking over the reins from the awesome Geoff Mason who has taken a senior advisor role for The Government. 👏😄

For 2016 the previous roles of GovHack National Site Coordinator and GovHack Lead have merged to form the role of GovHack National Director

To assist and streamline the management of sites across Australia for 2016, a new role of GovHack State Manager has been created. 🚄

GovHack State Managers and State Operations Teams will provide support for GovHack Hosts in that state and will also coordinate the new State Awards Ceremony. 🎉

Let's not waste time…

2. Applications Now Open! 🗳

3. New GovHack Events for 2016! ðŸ’¡âœ¨

GovHack 2016 aims to build upon our success to encourage even greater public participation and community involvement, especially amongst our youth and our fantastic maker and creative communities! To assist us with that goal, GovHack 2016 will offer the following four event types:
  • GovHack Official Events (largest events requiring sponsorship, event planning and promotion)
  • Maker Nodes (smaller events making cool objects as representations of open data)
  • Youth Nodes (smaller events for participants under 18 years)
  • Theme Nodes (smaller events that have a data/design/story ‘theme’)

4. Survey Response! So Few Homeless Ponies! ðŸ´

Thanks to all those who completed our Participants Survey since our last email. The response and your feedback was terrific! We are already putting your suggestions into action! We've taken measures to avoid bottlenecks in payment processing this year and have taken on board suggestions that those who want anchovies on their pizza should probably BYO. 🐟😲

We will be closing down the survey next Friday, so if you haven't had a chance and don't have a pony yet, then you'd better hurry up and Have Your Say

5. iAwards 🏆

Another application you may consider putting in is one for the upcoming iAwards which awards and honours individuals or institutions who create innovations that help society (like at GovHack perhaps? *cough *cough). Their closing date for applications is 31st March, but make sure you complete your GovHack volunteer application first!

6. You've Read THIS FAR!? 👁👁‼️

I'm excited to see who the awesome and talented volunteers will be that will join us on our journey to support and grow GovHack for 2016! It certainly has been a rush since I jumped onboard the GovHack train back in 2013 and I must say I haven't looked back! 🚅😎

(Thanks Pia Waugh & Dean Macaulay for taking me to the station! 🚉👏)

And Thank You for being a part of it! 👍😉✨

Cheers,

Richard.
