Greenwood Singers, under the direction of Founder & Artistic Director Robert de Frece, presents Scherzo Encore on Friday, April 8, 2015 at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral (10035 103 Street) at 8:00 PM. The choir will be joined by panist Helen Stuart. This concert is proudly presented by Snyder & Associates LLP and CKUA Radio. This concert concludes the choir’s 36th Season.
In 2006, Greenwood Singers presented Scherzo (Italian for “joke”), a program of choral music with humorous texts. Ten years later, it’s time to do it again. Enjoy the lighter side of choral music from Renaissance to Broadway when Greenwood Singers presents Scherzo Encore. The concert will include humorous madrigals and chansons from the Renaissance, Paul Sjolund’s Love Lost (Four Satirical Love Poems), Norman Luboff’s Much Ado About Nothings (Thirteen Pardoxical Pithy Paraphrases), J. Michael Diack’s settings of two nursery rhymes in the style of Handel, and Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers on words by Ogden Nash. The program will conclude with selections from Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Yeoman of the Guard.
