As structural engineer and prime design consultant, Biggs Cardosa Associates was responsible for the bridge design, coordinating with the stakeholders, completing the PS&E documents, gaining approval from regulatory agencies, LA County Flood Control District and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, coordinating the relocation or protect-in-place of multiple utilities, and acquiring 27 roadway slope and temporary construction easements.
As a result of the exceptional efforts of the design team and stakeholders the project was a success. This was achieved through:
- Designing innovative staging and under-bridge construction that reduced traffic impacts
- Overcoming funding challenges that could have cancelled the project
- Meeting and delivering the aggressive design and right-of-way schedule in less than 3 years
Project success is found not only in the finished product but the path that it took to get there. The management process and the true inclusion of stakeholders in the design process were unique, vesting everyone in the project’s success.
“Biggs Cardosa’s expertise and knowledge and their immediate responsiveness exceeded our expectations. As a team, their communication was very good. When you need something they immediately responded. Without them this job wouldn’t have gone anywhere.” – Mazen Dabboussi, California Department of Transportation
