Mishloach Manot Deliveries and Appreciation

By now, most CBH partners should have received a Mishloach Manot basket.  Baskets were left on the front porch if the door wasn't answered.  If you have not yet received a basket, please contact Rochelle Frank and Michael Bobell at bobells@sbcglobal.net.

Please note that your own name will NOT appear on the insert for your own basket!  However, you can rest assured that your name appeared on the insert for all other partners and staff members for whom you paid to send greetings.

As a true community project, many thank yous are due to the volunteers and other supporters who contributed to its success.  More than 1,500 Hamantaschen were baked and assembled into approximately 300 baskets, each hand-delivered within Yolo County and Dixon.  Sales exceeded $7,000 gross, but the true measure of success were the smiles and satisfaction of the basket recipients!

Rochelle Frank, Michael Bobell and their team have carried out a huge mitzvah for the CBH community yet again - - todah rabah!  To see a comprehensive list of those who made Mishloach Manot possible this year, please click
here.

Donate Your Blank Paper to the Gan Haverim Children!

The Gan Haverim children are looking for clean, blank paper to capture their creativity!  If you or your business have paper that is blank on one side, such as outdated letterhead, it can meet with a great re-use as drawing paper for our pre-school.  If you would prefer that logos or other business contact information be cut away before being re-used, Gan Haverim staff are happy to accommodate.  Paper of any size or type are most welcome.  Please, however, do not donate paper that includes any sensitive, personal information.

Donations can be delivered to the CBH office during regular business hours.  If you have questions, please contact Rhoda Rohnstock, Gan Haverim Director, by clicking
here, or by phoning 530-758-0842.  Todah Rabah!
7th Grade Sunday School Tzedakah Project:  A Message From the Class

We as 7th graders of the CBH Sunday School are trying something new this year.  For our B'nai Mitzvot, instead of giving gifts to each other, we are redirecting our money to the 7th Grade Tzedakah Project.  The project is to donate to organizations that we have chosen to address the problem of hunger.  We are seeking donations for our project to help us learn about tikkun olam, and how to give in the Jewish tradition.  We are not just learning about philanthropy, we are learning about the importance of how to give.

So far, we have raised $4,500 to give to the organizations we will choose for our project.  If you would like to donate to our project, you can give your tax deductible donations to the CBH office.  Please make checks to CBH, and include 7th grade Tzedakah Project in the memo line.

Thank you for your support,
The 7th Grade Class

Make Nugget Your Source for Pesach Provisions

As many CBH partners know, finding kosher for Passover foods, other than matzo, can be difficult in Yolo County.  However, with your CBH leadership on the case, solutions are on the horizon!

An ad hoc committee has formed to work with local grocery stores to improve the selection available to the Jews of our community.  In addition to receiving a nice list of items stocked by Whole Foods, a recent meeting with Nugget management resulted in an increased commitment to stocking a range of suitable goods, and more flexibility to make purchases of matzo, in particular, in smaller quantities.  Nugget staff intends to have their Passover items in stock by Sunday, April 10 (please note revised date).  Please prioritize shopping for pesach at Nugget, in order to ensure their continued interest in serving our community for years to come.

Questions?  Need more information?  Please contact
Ann Teal, Carole Plack, Janet Meizel, Pat Philipps or Nancy Loeb Williams by clicking their names.

"Reclaim the Records:  Using Freedom of Information Laws for Genealogy"

Sunday, March 20, 10:00 a.m.

Albert Einstein Residence Center, 1935 Wright Street, Sacramento

Brooke Schreier Ganz will talk about the organization she founded, "Reclaim the Records."  The organization uses state Freedom of Information laws to get "off-limits" genealogy records released back to the public and posted online for free.
The group successfully challenged the New York City Municipal Archives in court, and acquired the first-ever 20th Century genealogy indices from New Jersey.

In addition to founding Reclaim the Records (www.reclaimtherecords.org), Ganz is a computer programmer whose open-source genealogy software, LeafSeek, has enabled more than a million archival records to be available for free online. She is also a director of the nonprofit genealogy organization Gesher Galicia.
