Dear parents,
After much deliberation, the staff at Kaya FC Academy have come up with their selection list for the 2016 UFL Youth season. In light of recent developments, we have adjusted the lineup to allow for more players to participate while still trying to give the best players of the academy the chance to play in the region’s premier club tournament.
For the competition, we are allowed to register an unlimited number of players for the roster but include only 18 on a game day. For the small-sided teams (the U9s and U11s), we have opted to select a primary pool of 19 active players and a training pool of 7 players to be registered for the competition. All players will be eligible to play in the tournament, but the first 19 make up the current active roster, and the training pool of 7 players will also be eligible to play. However, preference will be given (at least initially) to those on the active roster. In addition, should players in the training pool demonstrate they have improved over the season, players will have freedom of movement from the training pool to the active list (and vice versa) depending on their consistency in attendance and their performances in training and games.
We don’t want to have complacent players who take up a roster spot after being selected and then go on vacation and leave the country only for us to be left shorthanded for games when other players could have participated. It also creates greater competition for spots and ensures that players show up for practice. However, we want to be as up front and honest with the players and inform them of roughly where they are on the depth chart so we can manage their expectations.
For the large-sided groups (U13 and above), all players are on the active list (no training pool). We have opted to register more players to accommodate the heavier workload that they typically have to endure from school. In previous years, both our U13 and U15 teams have suffered at the hands of extracurricular activities, so the opportunity to register more players hopefully means we will be well equipped to deal with such issues if they occur again this year. The U17 girls roster also has a large player pool, with many of the girls participating in other events such as the U14 national team.
It is expected that players train together with the team, with all selected players being eligible to train during the Monday and Friday Elite sessions. If getting to the Monday and Friday sessions is an issue, you are expected to make them up during the week. Players are also free to join regular practices on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday sessions in McKinley Hill and the Tuesday and Thursday sessions at Cuenca.
Details regarding the registration process, fees, and paperwork required will be released over the weekend as this is a lot to process, but congratulations to those who made the team. If you (or your child) didn't make the team and would like to know why, please let me know, and I will arrange a meeting with your child's coach, and they can give you some constructive feedback.
Lastly, Kaya will also be participating in many other tournaments and matches throughout the summer for the training players and also those who need more playing time. We will endeavor to ensure all players get excellent game exposure over the summer with their respective age-groups.
Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
|
