MNA Negotiations Update March 11, 2016

March 11, 2016

Minnesota Nurses Association Requested Federal Mediation Assistance in Securing Final Schedule for Negotiations

On February 23, 2016, MNA offered 10 potential bargaining dates commencing March 14 through May 11, 2016. On March 2, MNA received a response from management with only five dates beginning in late April and ending in late May. This schedule surprised us, given that there have been several Allina newsletters saying management was prepared to start bargaining in mid-March. Typically, negotiations begin in early March and end in mid-May.

Management wrote that they believed a “break” was needed after the three February sessions during early limited-scope negotiations. We disagree. Management refused to respond to our request for earlier dates, so we sought the assistance of federal mediation services.

With the assistance of the federal mediator, we have confirmed bargaining will start Thursday, April 14, and extend through Tuesday, May 17. We told management we are prepared, ready, and willing to bargain in good faith immediately to secure a contract that both parties can ratify.
