The One Thing.

Issue 5. 2016

There are many things going on, these are a few of my favorite ones.
The One Road Trip to take.
This highway, called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development (TEPR) is an ambitious project was proposed by Russian Railways head Vladimir Yakunin earlier this month, according to CNN.

The highway would have to span a minimum 55-mile distance between mainland Russia and Alaska, and continue on through the isolated state's wilderness. About 520 miles separates the closet settlement to Russia—Nome—from the nearest major city, Fairbanks.
The One Dictionary to study.
It seems this is the natural language for everyone under 20, but abbreviations are a complex subject for me.

If you are like me, you'll love this Dictionary of Abbreviations, beautifully designed and divided between text and internet types.
The One Lego set to create.
I've spent a lot of hours playing this mobile app, created by ustwo, one of my favorite studios in the world.

I now need more Monument Valley. Let's back the idea of bringing it to real life on the lego ideas site.

The One Place where Sharks pose.
Heron Island in Queensland, Australia, where photographer Scott Carr was celebrating his wedding.

I know it looks like a painting, that's how amazing the photograph is.
The One Phrase we hear most.
It's impossible to stay away from politics, Trump, and all the media coverage of the election. A few journalists do bring interesting perspectives forward, like this chart of the most used phrases by the candidates.

Some come across like bullies, others like pure politicians.

We are doomed!
The One Way to understand dislexia.
A developer named Victor Windell wanted to see what it’s like for people with severe dyslexia to read online content . So he created a simulation that lets anyone experience the way people with Dislexia experience the world (myself included).

The One Store that'll expand your mind.
The Department Store for the Mind is a place to explore the world inside your head: a vast and unique terrain of thoughts, ideas, emotions, and memories.
The One I forgot to mention.
I'm sorry, but better late than never.

The Behance Year in Review is a wonderful window into the dynamics of this fascinating creative community.
The One Selling pitch I love.
Honesty and clear expectations by This is not a Newsletter.
The One Message I endorse.
The One Idea I wish I'd had.

The One Object deserved of Design.
Coffee paper cups.

By the way, my favorite cup of coffee in NYC is Blue Bottle coffee. How about yours?

If you are up to it, I'd love to invite you on a quest for the best coffee and best burgers from around the world.

Let's share our favorites on twitter and instagram with the hashtag #thisistheone Tag me if you'd like @inaki88 on instagram and @inakiescudero on twitter.
The One AI to play with.
Point your iPhone at everyday objects and the app called AI Scry will read back what it thinks it’s looking at.

AI Scry sometimes gets it right, but most of the time comes back with nonsense—although it’s adorable nonsense.
The One Lesson inspired by Mom.
We are destined to become our parents. I know because I've used pretty much all the lines my mom used to say to me, with my kids.

Now available as wonderful, nostalgic magnets.

My fave:
Because I'm your mother. Period.
One day you'll understand.
Bundle up, it's cold outside.

I wonder what phrases our kids will remember.
The One Retro look to share with your kids.
Just so your kids can feel sympathy for you, and what we had to deal with at the beginning of the internet, share with them this retro iTunes App store interface. They might understand why we love Netflix so much.
The One Chart to put things in perspective.
The One Brand resource.
I constantly need to look for Brand visuals and logos.

I now I have these two resources to help me simplify my search:

The One teaching us to say NO.
I've been talking with a lot of people about living with two contrasting thoughts: "Yes and..." to facilitate creation and saying "No" to put more time into the projects that deserve my attention.

In this article we learn about the power of saying NO, an extract from Kevin Ashton's new book, “How to Fly a Horse  —  The Secret History of Creation, Invention, and Discovery,”
The One Idea I love.

No tipping at restaurants.

Before you think I am crazy, listen to this podcast from Freakonomics, where Danny Meyer explains his reasons for eliminating tipping at some of his restaurants. (the Modern and Maialino)

The One that Scares me and excites me.

Google’s AlphaGo computer program won 3 games in a row against a top player of the Chinese board game Go. The victory marks “a major step forward for artificial intelligence” which experts had thought was still years away.

In the race for the development of smarter A.I., the question remains: is this scary or fascinating? or Both?

The One Future we can anticipate.
To keep the pulse on where Venture Capitalist's money is going check out this list. A lot going into the development of IoT (internet of things.)
The One Way to avoid waste.
Only in Denmark?

Perhaps, but what an inspiring idea.
