Has your bowel gone CRAZY?

There you are living a great life, all cozy and comfortable and happy when one day it hits you. That sudden urgent call of the loo!

You have to run to find the nearest loo. Not a problem if you are at home, but when  you are out and about it can become the race of your life.

I know you know what I mean!

Then this urgency settles and you figure it was a once only event. Until next time, then it reoccurs over several days, and disappears as suddenly as it started. So you relax again but a small part of your mind stays on alert. Waiting. And there it is, a few days or maybe a few weeks later that urgency hits you, but this time it’s not only a few days of serious urgent bowel situations, it lasts for a week or two, and to top it off you then become constipated and can’t go to the loo at all.  So its off to the doctor to see what is happening.

A barrage of tests later, and all the results are fine, you are a picture of health. Nothing nasty anywhere, nothing wrong at all. So what has happened to your bowel? Read more...

Corn Bread.

This is a recipe that makes a really yummy corn bread.

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • ¼ cup corn flour
  • 125gm polenta
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Jalapenos - add 1 teaspoon chopped up, or if you like it hot add more!
  • 5 spring onions
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup yoghurt
  • ½ cup oil

Grease and line a baking tray/lamington tray with paper.

Heat oven to 190ºC

Beat eggs, add yoghurt and oil, and mix well. Combine all dry ingredients and pour egg mix into the dry ingredients. Add the jalapenos and spring onion. Mix well. Pour mixture into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Test with a tooth pick to make sure it is cooked. Leave bread to cool in pan for 15 minutes then turn onto wire rack to cool.

What do the ‘BEST BEFORE’ dates on meat really mean?

I always thought that the "use by" or "best before" date was for my benefit, but no! The "best before" date that you see on your meat packaging is solely for the supermarket to know when to sell the product by so that is hasn’t spoiled.

I like to buy meat for two or three days ahead, and after a couple of instances of meat that was obviously going "off", but was still well within the "best before" date, I phoned Coles and spoke to the butcher. He willingly refunded me, but he explained that the "best before" date was specifically for the fridges that they use with a much colder temperature than a normal home fridge. So he suggested that once you purchase your meat, if you don’t freeze it then you need to eat it within 24 hours. It is also important to take any meat out of the plastic wrapping as soon as you get home and put it in your fridge otherwise bacteria will start to multiply.

He was very helpful and it is good to have this information.  So I suggested to him that it would be useful for the consumer if they put up a sign to inform the public of these conditions.  I really didn’t know that these "best before" dates were conditional!

Get ready for winter.

Autumn is nearly here although that might be a little hard to believe for those of us still sweltering in 30° temperatures!  Maybe it will present itself after our Easter break. And this heralds in the coming winter and the time to boost your immune system ready for the cold winter weather.  Not that Sydney gets that cold, but we do get our share of all the winter bugs that travel the planet.

So help yourself to health and get in early to boost your immune system. Get some protection for the flu season by using homeopathic and herbal remedies, and stocking up on your vitamins for winter.

Echinacea is a must during winter, so too are vitamins C, A and D.

And remember to use what is in your pantry; garlic, turmeric, honey, lemon, thyme, sage, rosemary. Lots of goodies to add to your food and help with the process.

You can also purchase a home health kit that I make for winter wellness. It includes herbs, homeopathics, and tissue salts. Contact Molly directly to get just what the doctor ordered!!!

You can also get my ebook "Treating The Common Cold, Naturally"  from Amazon or my web page.
