Smarter Balanced Assessments

With spring comes state testing! This will be our second year of the online Smarter Balanced tests in English Language Arts and Math to all students in grades 3-8. Smarter Balanced tests are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, and they have replaced the previous state MSP tests.

Each school will determine a testing schedule within the stated time frame (March 14 through June 10). The tests are untimed and are designed to be given over more than one day, which allows schools flexibility in length of test sessions. For instance, a class may complete the Math computer-adaptive test in one test session; then, another day will be scheduled for the Math performance task portion of the test. Some students may finish in two test sessions; others who need more time will continue their work on a different day.

The Washington Comprehensive Assessment Program website contains lots of test-related resources for parents and students: http://wa.portal.airast.org/ . From this site, you can also try out a Smarter Balanced practice or training test. For more information, contact our school principal or Chris Lindberg, the district manager of state testing, at lindbergc@bsd405.org.

Interlake Girls Select Basketball Spring Tryouts!!!!

Who?

3rd to 5th Grade girls interested in playing basketball

Where?
Highland Middle School

When?
Tuesday, March 8th from 6:00-7:30pm

About Us
The Interlake Saints Girls Basketball program is comprised of teams 3rd through 8th grades. We strive to build great basketball players for Interlake High School varsity participation.  Along the way, we try to enhance the girls’ sportsmanship, character, and attention to hard work. We welcome players from other schools/programs to join us as rosters permit.

We play in the Puget Sound Travelling League or Cascade League against similar teams from other area high school feeder teams.

Each team practices twice a week and we try to also offer a third optional day of open gym for individual skills work and scrimmage. Final days and times are dependent on available gym time. We do our best to get gym time for each team on the most accommodating days, but it is not always possible.

Games are on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes teams will have double-headers on one day, other times they will have one game on Saturday and one game on Sunday. Spring league runs from April to early June.
Fees cover games, refs, gym time, uniforms, tournament fees, AAU card, etc.  Your daughter’s personal equipment (ball, proper shoes), or pictures are not covered. Spring fees would 150 dollars.

No girl will be turn away from our program based on financial need.  Scholarships are available as approved by the IGSB Board.
