Save the date: the next Honors Salon is April 1

We have three Honors Salons scheduled in April! First, join us to welcome Dr. Carlton Basmajian from Community and Regional Planning. Dr. Basmajian wrote a book about urban sprawl in Atlanta...order it and read up before he comes to talk about it on April 1 at 3:10pm in the Jischke Lounge.
April 15: Dr. Alex Stoytchev (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
April 29: Brendan Dunphy (Entomology)

New around here?

If you are a new Honors student this semester, watch your email! Honors staff and Ambassadors will be hosting a Welcome to Honors event coming up in April, so keep an eye out for emails from the Honors Program.

Registration for Fall '16 classes is close!

Take an Honors class: one of the ways Honors students can remain in the Honors program is to exhibit "satisfactory progress towards graduation"...which means steadily taking the number of Honors courses required by your specific college. Is English 302 required for you? Amanda Fishel especially recommends the Honors section of the course: https://honorslife.wordpress.com/2016/03/21/7-reasons-to-take-the-honors-section-of-english-302-with-memes/
Honors seminar descriptions are up! Another great slate of Honors seminars is scheduled for Fall '16...you can see the list online. Seminar registration opens on April 13 at noon!

Engineers: Take Technical Communication in Australia!

If you have to take a technical communication class, why not take it in Australia? Finish up a fall semester of English 314 with a 2 week study abroad program in Sydney over winter break. Holly Dunlay-Lott, the Engineering Honors liaison, is helping to coordinate the study abroad program; if you have questions, please contact her.

From the Kitchenette to the World Wide Web: Honors Projects Now Part of ISU Digital Repository

Until now, you could learn about earlier Honors Projects mainly by paging through the three-ring binders of project abstracts stored in the Jischke kitchenette. But last week, Honors Projects abstracts and posters found a new, globally accessible home in ISU’s Digital Repository. Fall 2015 presentations are the first to be placed on the Honors repository, a collection that will grow each semester (the older abstracts are still in the kitchen if you want to see them).

The Digital Repository offers you a way to share your work and build an online portfolio. Participants receive a monthly e-mail telling how many times their presentation has been downloaded, read and used. Just as exciting is that if you are planning your Honors Project, you can view previous presenters’ work anytime and anywhere. Take a look: http://lib.dr.iastate.edu/honors_posters/

Students of all majors and years are invited to attend an informational meeting on competitive international scholarships.  The meeting will be held from 12:10 – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 in the Study Abroad Center, 3228 Memorial Union.

ISU representatives for the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates-Cambridge, Rotary, Fulbright, & Boren Scholarships will describe these prestigious and highly-competitive international awards, their selection criteria, and the types of study, activities and/or research each supports.

The majority of these scholarships require applicants be US citizens; international students may be able to apply for the Rotary or Fulbright Scholarship through their home country.

More information on the scholarships can be found at http://www.honors.iastate.edu/scholarships/aboutScholarships.php
