Week of March 7,  2016 | KC Streetcar Update

KC STREETCAR COMMUNITY CELEBRATION | May 6-7, 2016
The KC Streetcar will open to the public on Friday, May 6, 2016.  The planning process is underway to make this not only a celebration of the KC Streetcar but celebration of the downtown Kansas City community as well. During the first weekend of May, Kansas City will throw a series of street parties along the streetcar route as residents and visitors celebrate our dynamic downtown in a family-friendly environment.

Multiple stops along the streetcar line will host celebrations and parties highlighting Downtown Kansas City's vibrant neighborhoods and their connectivity through the KC Streetcar. May 7 will feature a “Family Fun Day” full of activities for kids of all ages along the streetcar route.

From Union Station to the River Market, there will be activities, food and fun for everyone and all connected by the KC Streetcar.
KC STREETCAR TRAINING & TESTING
This month, the KC Streetcar entered into the pre-revenue operations phase of testing and training.  The KC Streetcar team will be out testing and training operators this week, Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm and Saturday, 8:00am - 12:00pm.

Work will take place on the main route as well as at the Singleton Yard. On Wednesday, the team will be performing pre-revenue operation tests involving the KCATA bus bridge and wheelchair loading and unloading.  Friday's streetcar test will involve bicycle loading and unloading.

Please help keep our operators and streetcars safe when they are out training.  Remember to never cross in front of a moving streetcar as a pedestrian or motorist, and never park on the streetcar tracks, even if for a brief moment.  When parking along the streetcar route, make sure the vehicle is entirely within the white painted line.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS
The Art in the Loop Foundation (AILF) is pleased to announce a Call for Concepts for the 2016 Art in the Loop Project. Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. This year, AILF will curate thoughtful and engaging performances and semi-permanent public artworks for Downtown Kansas City centered around the theme Connect.

The project will expand its geographical and conceptual scope to include the KC Streetcar route. The Kansas City Streetcar Authority and AILK are working together to showcase work at the streetcar stops and within the streetcar; thus, generating a call for concepts for Art in the Loop/Art on the Line. New visual and performance possibilities are abundant by way of this partnership, and AILF encourages artists to consider these new surfaces and spaces for artistic expression.
