Loving God,

Let everything I do this day
and in this season of Lent
come from You, be inspired by You.

I long to be closer to You.
Help me to remember that
nothing is important in my life
unless it glorifies You in some way.

It's so easy to get caught up
in the day to day of my life and keep saying,
"Tomorrow, I will spend more time in prayer,"
but now my longing meets Your love
and I want to do it now.
Help me to rely on You for help.

Amen.

Annual Fund
We are always thankful to partner with our BSM students and the Red Knight Volunteer Corps (RKVC) to lead Annual Fund student calling sessions throughout the year. Special thanks to all of our student volunteers for being great advocates for the Red Knight community!

Featured Red Knight Caller: Leif Anderson
Leif is a sophomore student at BSM. Leif enjoys his time on the clay target team as well as committing his time to RKVC and Boy Scouts. Leif says that he loves "the sense of family we have as a school. I like the people that go here and I get along with a lot of people." Thanks Leif!

Open House
The next BSM open house is Thursday, March 17, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. Current parents are our best ambassadors for spreading the word about BSM. Feel free to share this with anyone who you think would like to learn more about being a Red Knight. More information can be found by visiting the open house webpage here.

March Madness for PRISM
BSM is celebrating March Madness this week, March 7-11. As part of our celebration, the senior high student council is hosting a food drive for PRISM. Over 1/3 of food shelf users are children, and last year PRISM in Golden Valley had over 19,000 food shelf visits. Therefore, we are asking that students, faculty, staff and parents bring donation items to the main lobby throughout the week. Here is a list of the most needed items: cereal, pasta, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned meats, soups, sugar, flour, peanut butter, snacks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dish soap, laundry detergent, diapers, baby wipes and formula. If we collect 10,000 pounds, Latin teacher Rob Epler has agreed to have his head shaved during halftime of the March Madness teachers vs. high school students basketball game this Friday. Thank you in advance for your participation!

Locker Clean-Out
Attention: All lockers in the Haben Center need to be cleaned out by Friday, March 18.  All Haben Center locker rooms and the lockers themselves will be cleaned over spring break. Thank you!

College Planning Meeting for Parents of Sophomores

BSM counselors will present to parents of sophomores Wednesday, March 30, in the Hamburge Theater. Parents can attend either the 10 a.m. meeting or the 7 p.m. meeting, both of which will be the same presentation. Some of the topics that will be covered include the ACT and SAT, paying for college, college visits and a timeline for BSM’s college and career planning services.

College Fair
BSM will host a college fair Tuesday, April 19, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Haben Center. All juniors are required to attend as a part of their Building Your Future portfolio, and all other BSM students and parents are welcome to attend. Approximately 125 college and university representatives will be available to talk with prospective students and parents. They will answer questions about the college admissions process and provide information about their particular college or university. A list of colleges/universities that will be in attendance is available at the top of the guidance page here.

Parents of Juniors

The required Building Your Future college and career portfolio, which includes assignments and required attendance at the BSM college fair April 19, is due in the college and career center by 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 19. Juniors will receive half a credit and a passing grade on their transcript for the portfolio. This is a graduation requirement. If students need help with any of the assignments, they should ask one of the counselors. Also, there are several sample portfolios available to look at in the college and career center. Portfolios will be graded based on what is turned in April 19, and grades will not be negotiated. Juniors will earn part of their total portfolio points from attending the college fair Tuesday, April 19, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Haben Center.

College Reminders for Parents of Seniors

  1. Scholarships: Be mindful of scholarship deadlines. There are still many scholarship opportunities that can be found in the “scholarship list” or the “national scholarship search” under the “colleges” tab in your Naviance account. Other websites with scholarship searches: Big Future, Scholarships and FastWeb.
  2. Housing Deposits: The housing deposit is different than an enrollment deposit. Once admitted, or in some cases before you find out an admission decision (larger campuses), you should submit your housing deposit to secure a room. Students may submit housing deposits at more than one college. Note that the housing deposit is often refundable before May 1. Read all of the emails (remember to check your junk mail frequently) and letters sent to you from each of your colleges, and look on their website and/or call the admissions office or residence life office with any housing-related questions.
  3. Contact the colleges you will not be attending: If you know that you will not be attending a college that you have been admitted to, please contact that college's admissions office (by phone or by email) to let them know that you will not be attending. Contacting colleges now, or as early as possible, allows them to make better decisions about whether they can admit students who have been deferred or wait-listed.
