Happy International Women's Day!

Today we celebrate the 459 women who have joined our VidaSana program and have made the commitment to lead healthier lives. These women are not only transforming their own health, but the health of their families and communities as well. Please join us today to continue to make this a reality for the deserving women of the VidaSana community.

Grameen 2.0 Launch Celebration

We were thrilled to recently welcome Professor Muhammad Yunus to our facility in Jackson Heights for the launch of our closer alignment with our sister organization, Grameen America. This comprehensive integrated services approach is expanding and promoting access to both healthcare and capital among underserved women in New York City. As part of this celebration, we also honored two women who are active participants in both programs. Please click on the photo below for a video about this special event and our innovative model:

Professor Yunus with GA Branch Manager Nurul Kabir, GVS Physician Dr. Diana Ramirez, and GA/GVS members Luz Amparo Zamora & Francisca Campos.

Direct Relief Support

We are thankful to be a beneficiary of medical donations from Direct Relief. These much-needed supplies get distributed to our members and help to provide necessary aid at zero-cost to our members. We are grateful for all the services and organizations that support Grameen PrimaCare and make the VidaSana program the success it is today.

Health Screenings

One of the main goals of the VidaSana program is to make sure all our members receive appropriate health screenings. The VidaSana program has surpassed the Healthy People 2020 objectives on mammograms, pap smears, and screenings for colorectal cancer. Proper preventive measures and education are helping to ensure our members stay healthy for years to come.

New & Improved Activities Room

As the VidaSana program needs have evolved over time, we recently gave an update to our activities room to make it larger and more user-friendly for our members. In addition to a fresh coat of paint, we installed rubber flooring to enhance various activities including yoga, Zumba and dance therapy, as well as other classes like crafts and ESOL. VidaSana members are also encouraged to use the communal space for activities organized amongst the patient community. We invite you to come visit us soon to see our program in action.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

As part of our 2014 Giving Tuesday Campaign, we created an Emergency/Catastrophic Care Fund to provide emergency support for our members in need. This important fund has granted numerous courses of antibiotics (some life-saving), surgical procedures, emergency shelter, dental surgeries and much-needed prescriptions. The most remarkable thing to note, however, is that most of the women who have benefited from this fund ultimately repay their money used, when able, to help other women in the community. This truly is representative of the remarkable spirit of the people who participate in our program.
