2016 Michigan Charter School Essay Contest
The National Charter Schools Institute is sponsoring an essay contest for Michigan charter school students in grades six through 12. The top prize for each division is $500 and the deadline is April 1, 2016. To learn more click here.  
Governor’s Budget Recommendation Released
Governor Rick Snyder has released his executive budget recommendation for the upcoming fiscal year. To learn how this proposed budget may impact Michigan schools, click here.
Growth Measure for all Students Webinars Available
The Center has been sharing information with CMU-authorized charter public schools this school year regarding the use of student growth percentiles and median growth percentiles starting in the 2016-17 school year. To review content from past webinars and register for the April webinar, click here.
Computer Science First Program Offered by Google 
CS First is a free program offered by Google and the Michigan Film and Digital Media Office to give students access to computer science education. To read more details and find out how to start the program in your school, click here.
Last Call for Stakeholder Survey Responses
Stakeholders at CMU-authorized charter public schools recently received a survey via email regarding the services provided by the Center. The feedback we receive from this survey is vital to future decisions at the Center. Surveys are due on March 10.  Complete the survey.

Spirit of the Future Scholarships
Eligible graduates of CMU-authorized charter public high schools have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to attend CMU.  Read more
Charter School Educator Award
Eligible educators and school leaders at CMU-authorized charter public schools can receive 50 percent tuition assistance for eligible graduate programs at CMU.  Read more

GOOD NEWS IN OUR SCHOOLS
Pathways to Careers Program Success Story
Former Macomb Academy student Tony Anderson was recently hired by Action Wood 360 in Clinton Township following an internship with the company through the Pathways to Careers Program. Tony will be doing woodworking and cabinetmaking at the company; a great example of the programs and services Macomb Academy offers to develop job skills for their students and connect them to local businesses.
New School High Teacher Receives State Award
The American Legion Department of Michigan announced that New School High’s Amy Trombley is being recognized as Teacher of the Year. The award is given out to five teachers in the state and comes with a $500 grant for her to use at the school.  Read more
