Rock band take Davenant’s Got Talent prize
Rock band Red Alert went one better this year and won Davenant Foundation School’s talent show.
Forty-one acts auditioned for Davenant’s Got Talent with 15 acts selected by the school’s PTA for Friday’s final.
Red Alert - Ben Hodgkinson (lead singer and rhythm guitar), Archie Turner (bass), Daniel King (drums) and Oscar Ball (lead guitar) - were the winners with Sixth Form student Mehdi Ajami (violin) runner-up and Year 7 student Lily Barker (pianist/singer) third.
The final three were judged by teacher Margaret Lamb, Parents' Association representative Stacey Goodman and last year’s winner Aoife O’Brien (pianist and singer).
Ben said: “We got together for the talent competition last year and were runners-up so we were over the moon to win this year. It was really good.â€
Parents' Association chairman Alison Hodgkinson said: “They formed six weeks before Davenant’s Got Talent last year. Now they are in Year 8. They got to know each other through their music lessons.
“They had a dream and came second last year and from there they have been together as a band and played at a Jam Night in the Crown pub in Romford and have their first gig in the pub on May 2.
Oscar said: “We look back at the videos and just try and improve.
“We’ve got this gig (May 2) and a recording session so we might look to write our own album and influence the music industry.â€
