Installing At Table: Cleveland Culinaria

March arts news

Dear friends,

We are welcoming an early spring here at Heights Arts and it came in with a bang, with record-setting attendance for last Friday's opening of At Table: Cleveland Culinaria. More than 400 people crowded into our gallery over three hours to view the amazing, collaborative installations by the exhibition's creative groups. We are now looking forward to the first of five At Table: Food & Drink events this weekend with Edible Cleveland's Noelle Celeste and Bridget Thibeault of Luna Bakery and Cafe. Of course, we've sold out of two out of the five events already, so don't wait to get your tickets! "Not enough," you say? Well, we've got more! Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a Heights Arts-inspired cocktail at one of our neighboring establishments (and support the arts in Cleveland Heights at the same time). Don't miss our Spotlight opening with artist Cathie Bleck on March 18. With all we have to offer, I know we'll see you soon at Heights Arts. In the meantime, enjoy our unseasonably warm weather and rejoice that you are living in such a creative community!

Yours,
Rachel Bernstein, Executive Director

At Table: Cleveland Culinaria

Through April 16

27 visual artists have partnered with some of Cleveland’s most creative culinary experts to transform our gallery into a series of unique installations that speak to the art of food through the materials we use to eat and drink.

At Table: Cleveland Culinaria showcases the collaborative visions of chefs Marc-Aurele Buholzer, Douglas Katz, Bob Sferra, food editor Noelle Celeste, and food stylist Melissa McClelland.

The five culinary-themed installations include works in ceramics, glass, fiber, metal, wood, photography, printmaking, and drawing. MORE

Spotlight Cathie Bleck

Spotlight: Cathie Bleck

Opens Friday, March 18

Cathie Bleck, an internationally respected artist (and Cleveland resident) is well known for her distinctive works in scratchboard and kaolin clay board. Her stylized, organic forms–rooted in themes of evolution, transformation, and fragility–are cut through inks and handmade pigments, revealing the white of the kaolin clay beneath.

Join us for an opening reception and opportunity to meet the artist on March 18, 6-9 p.m.

Come view the final days of Spotlight: Rafael Valdivieso Troya through this Saturday, March 12.

Artist of the Month Susan Danko

Artist of the Month

Susan Danko

A past recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellance Award, Susan Danko is known for her semi-abstract landscape paintings with stylized natural forms and atmospheric washes of vibrant color.

“The paintings that I create are informed by my thoughts and responses to the new state of our contemporary natural environment,” notes Susan. “They are constructed from both memory and observation, and arise from real and imagined environmental scenarios."

Stop in the gallery shop this month and enter our free giveaway for one of Susan’s “Habitat” series paintings.
