People always say, "don't give up!" but sometimes giving up is what's best....

That's not a typo. And it's not meant to be discouraging or cynical; quite the opposite....

On February 28, I posted this status update on Facebook:

"i just spent the last 8 hours reading my entire manuscript from start to finish. And you know what? It's pretty good! One more round of editing, and it'll be ready for a professional editor and headed towards publication. And you know what else? A month ago, I would have told you that I'd given up on finishing it. In the beginning of January, I did give up. Totally. Completely. My heart just wasn't in it, and I decided I wasn't going to force myself to finish writing my book, any of my books, ever. And then something shifted this month. I didn't have to force anything; I just felt guided and driven. So maybe sometimes "giving up" is the perfect thing to do. It can be a form of surrender, allowing, and trusting...a stronger form of letting go..... So this isn't a "don't give up" message; this is a "give up" message, because sometimes giving up truly is the best thing to do."

And it's true. Sure, sometimes we need the "three feet from gold" message about not giving up. But how about this other side of the coin? How about considering "giving up" as giving yourself a break?

I gave up in January, and I needed to give up in order to have this breakthrough. I needed to give up in order to relieve the pressure. I also needed to focus on some other things in my life, and giving up on my writing goals, really giving up-- not just saying I'll do it later, but saying I may never do it-- was exactly what I needed.

I'm not necessarily saying that giving up on something, or someone, would be the right thing for YOU to do. But it's worth considering. Maybe not now. But some day. Or maybe now.  It's worth asking yourself, Do I need to NOT give up right now? Or would giving up actually be what's best?

Only you know what's right for you. I can certainly help if you want to hire me as your coach or spiritual advisor. But ultimately it's up to you. Ultimately, you always know what's best and what's True.

And speaking of Truth, I have some Sheng Zhen classes coming up for those of you in Seattle (Sheng Zhen means "Sacred Truth," if you didn't know....). I'll also be hosting Laura Lavigne's Essential Dating workshop in my home again, the first weekend of April. Please scroll down for all the classes and events coming up, and remember, if you're not in Seattle, I'm always available online for private qigong or meditation instruction. :) Just ask.

Much Love,
Rebecca
