Michigan's Children Examines Governor's Budget for Impact on Kids, Youth, Families
State legislators have been discussing Governor Snyder’s fiscal year 2017 budget in their appropriation subcommittees since the $10.2 billion general fund spending plan was unveiled last month. To help advocates and others identify how his proposals will impact young children and families and youths, Michigan’s Children has created new Budget Briefs on the issues. Read these along with new one-pagers that outline our policy priorities for FY2017 including Early On, expanded learning and family literacy.

Spotlight Series Features Family Support for Parenting Awareness Month
Supporting parents and others raising children is one of the best investments Michigan can make to ensure all children have the best outcomes in school and life. That’s why Michigan’s Children is featuring a series of articles during March – Parenting Awareness Month – that details work of important partners across the state in areas such as Early On, adult education, and birth, foster and adoptive parents involved in the child welfare system.

Be Well-Informed: Kids Count Data Coming
The 2016 Kids Count in Michigan Data Book will be released soon with county-by-county information on the status of children in Michigan and regional trends. This annual resource has been an effective tool for child and family advocates seeking reliable data and information to bolster their community concerns with policymakers.
Learn more about how you can add your voice to this release by registering for a March 14th pre-release webinar starting at 1:30 p.m. The webinar will detail how you can help with the media release of the Data Book and access materials prior to its March 21 release.

Great News: It's a Girl and another Girl!
Michigan's Children is expanding! Senior policy analyst Mina Hong and her family welcomed baby Emmie, born Tuesday, and weighing in at 7 lbs., 8 ozs. Mother and child are doing great. Besides mom and dad, Emmie joins older brother Lennon, who’s 2 ½ years old.
In December, President/CEO Matt Gillard and his family welcomed baby Pearl, who's now 3 months old and holding her own with big sibs Gracie, 12, Joel, 10, and Gus, 4.
