November 16 is the RCP Network Gathering

Mark your calendars! The 2016 RCP Network Gathering will be held Wednesday, November 16 in Nashua, NH. This year’s theme will focus on using creativity and innovation to advance regional conservation across New England and New York. Twelve workshops will be offered in four tracks:
  • the practice of regional conservation
  • better scientific tools and communication
  • teaming with wildlife, agriculture, and recreation groups
  • conservation finance

Following the success of last year’s pre-Gathering events, we will again be hosting an RCP Coordinators meeting Tuesday, November 15, also in Nashua, NH.

More details about the events will be released this summer. We hope you will join us again this fall to learn how to work in partnership to conserve bigger, faster, and smarter at the #2016RCP Network Gathering!

$7.85 million in New Federal Funding for Forest Land Protection in New England and Eastern New York

With the Maine Mountain Collaborative's $4.6 million, and the Long Island Sound Watershed’s RCP Program's $3.25 million in Healthy Forest Reserve Program (HFRP) funding, people working together in RCPs around the region are now taking a serious look at whether the Natural Resource Conservation Service's RCP Program is right for them.

Twenty RCPs will be among those applying for HFRP funding in the Long Island Sound watershed to conserve and restore forested habitat for wood thrush, blackburnian warbler, red-shouldered hawk, and other state-listed species.

The Maine Mountain Collaborative project will help improve inadequate fish and wildlife habitat, particularly for listed species, and biodiversity in the mountains of western Maine, a nationally significant forested mountain corridor along the spine of the Appalachians recognized for its importance in climate adaptation.

Collaborate online! Join RCPNetwork.org

At last year’s RCP Coordinators meeting, leaders said they wanted a way to exchange ideas, share information and resources, keep abreast of training and new funding opportunities, and network with others throughout New England, New York, and beyond. Since then, the RCP Network Steering Committee has been working on a new tool to help network members communicate with each other better.

RCPNetwork.org is built using Ning, a platform that allows organizations to create custom social networks. This resource has many useful features including a discussion forum, blog, calendar, RCP member information, working groups with forums, messaging, and the ability to link to Google Docs.
