U-M-Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation (BICI) Partnership Program-Funding Opportunity
An invitation from U-M-BICI Partnership Program


The Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation (BICI), a pioneering new institute in China, employs collaborative and innovative approaches to bring university technologies to market.

Faculty interested in learning more about U-M-BICI (Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation) Partnership Program and submitting a proposal are invited to attend one of the two U-M-Partnership Program Information Sessions in Palmer Commons (March 17, 2016) and the Duderstadt Center (March 18, 2016). Space is limited please RSVP by March 15, 2016.

Dr. Xinjian Zhou, Associate Dean of BICI and President of BICI USA will present the program together with Professor Chuanwu Xi, the U-M Faculty Executive Director, and Dr. Tiefei Dong, the U-M Interim Program Manager of the U-M-BICI Partnership Program. 

Research Areas
BICI is interested to fund U-M research and translational research in a broad range of areas, including engineering, health, science and environmental technologies.

  • Simulation and Design; Robotics; Advanced Manufacturing; Environmental Protection; Water Treatment; Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction; New Energy Vehicle; New Energy; Smart Grid; Remote Sensing; Information Security; Electrical Engineering; Opto-Electronic Technology; Materials; Biomedical Engineering; Biotechnology; and Food Science and Engineering.
  • Projects will be screened to ensure compliance with U.S. export controls and other regulations.

U-M-BICI Partnership Program will be inviting research proposals from U-M Faculty and proposals must be developed using the Applications and Instructions in the Call for Proposals.

Submission Deadlines: April 15, 2016 and October 15, 2016
Award Amount: up to $150,000/yr and eligible for extension to second year.
Eligibility: Only permanent, full-time faculty in the professional ranks (assistant, associate, full, or research) from all relevant colleges and schools may apply.
Expected Number of Awards:  3-5 in the first round
