The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) offers skillfully administered Child and Adolescent Programs for ages 3 to 17 years old that support the needs of all genders and are free of charge. Services include individual counselling for children and youth under the age of 18, as well as adolescent girls’ group. SACE has five specially-trained, trauma-informed counsellors that provide counseling services and support for children and adolescents. With the use of two fully-equipped playrooms, children that utilize services feel safe in their healing journey from sexual abuse.

As a result of the child friendly surroundings, and qualified staff, the children that come to SACE experience a significant reduction in trauma symptoms. The reduction in trauma symptoms leads to better relationships with peers, and family members, which leads to increases in self-esteem and confidence. As quoted from one parent whose family received SACE’s services, “Your program has supported our family so much! My children are going to do amazing things and you have contributed to all the things they will accomplish and all the people they will help.” Thanks to the child and youth services that SACE provides, many families and children are receiving the support they need to reinforce their own resiliency, and not feel so alone in this process.
