Hosted by AVC Community Practice veterinarian, Dr. Kathy Ling, this session will provide basic information on how to recognize and care for emergencies and injuries in dogs and cats. Topics will include primary assessment, handling an injured pet, bleeding, shock, common toxins, and recognizing signs of pain and distress.
"Basic First Aid for Your Pet" will take place on Tuesday, March 29, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in Lecture Theatre A at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome! For information, call (902) 566-0589, or visit upei.ca/avc. (Source: UPEI/AVC website)
13) Law Week Project Helps Low Income Islanders To Create Wills
The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Young Lawyers’ Section and the CBA Pro Bono Committee are excited to announce a “Wills Clinic”. The project is running April 11th to 15th, 2016 in recognition of Law Day, which is celebrated nationally this year on April 14. Young Lawyers on PEI are volunteering to draft wills for a number of low income Islanders.
“This exciting Pro Bono initiative is a wonderful way for Young Lawyers to help Islanders in need,” said Meaghan Hughes, Chair of the CBA Young Lawyers Section in PEI.
The Community Legal Information Association (CLIA) is coordinating the application process. “CLIA’s recent New Horizons for Seniors outreach project revealed many reasons why people have not yet put their affairs in order”, said CLIA’s President, Warren Banks. CLIA has found that many Islanders believe they cannot afford to see a lawyer to make a will, creating a significant access to justice concern. Access to Justice is the theme for Law Day 2016, making this project a natural partnership for the groups.
Low income Islanders in need of a will are encouraged to contact CLIA for an application form. Completed forms must be returned by noon on March 25, 2016. Islanders approved to participate in the Wills Clinic will be contacted directly by a Young Lawyer to provide instruction and obtain a will between April 11 and 15, 2016.
For an application form, email clia@cliapei.ca or call 902-892-0853.
You can download it here: WILL CLINIC APPLICATION
