King Harold Academy celebrates World Book Day
King Harold Academy celebrated World Book Day with a host of exciting events.
The international day celebration the reading and enjoyment of books for pleasure saw the school vlsited by Gangster Granny,Alice in Wonderland, students from Hogwarts and Merlin as staff and KS3 students dressed as their favourite characters for the day.
Reading was the focus of the event and the school's Drop Everything and Read bells were sounded at various points so students could stop and enjoy reading.
School Librarian Giselle Morris dressed as an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as the and the Learning Resource Centre hosted an exciting range of activities including a riddle game from the Hobbit, an online quiz and a treasure hunt.
Mrs Morris said: "It was fantastic to see a high number of students engaging in reading and the knowledge and power it could give them.
"We have also been fortunate enough to be able to purchase a new selection of books for the library which were unveiled during the day.
"There was great competition and enthusiasm among students to view the new books and be the first to borrow them!
"The day created a real buzz around books and generated lots of conversations about favourite titles, the love of reading, and enjoyment of books."
