Summer 2016:
The Countdown Has Begun!

It's hard to believe that April is just around the corner. With each day that passes we find ourselves busier with planning and preparing for the coming summer. Our staffing is almost complete and many campers, CITs and staff have started their countdowns until they arrive at camp.

It's a very exciting time, but it can also be very overwhelming, particularly for camp parents.  In the coming weeks and months we'll provide you with pointers and tidbits of information to help you prepare for the coming summer.  This will not only help in the preparations for the summer, it will also help ensure a successful camp experience for both you and your daughter(s).

We recently did a large cosmetic overhaul of the online parent account system.  Your ability to complete forms, print paper forms, and download additional resources remains the same.  The recent updates are based on feedback from parents and are focused on making the system more sensible, streamlined and overall more user friendly.  Once you log in, you'll immediately recognize differences in the system- here is an overview of the new system:

  • your daughter's name clearly listed at the top of the screen.  Her current school and grade are listed here as well.
  • Parent and family contact information, including emergency contact details, are accessible via the green bars below your daughter's name.  Simply click on a heading to edit this information.
  • Click on the "+ More" button to the right of your daughter's name to:
    • Access camper forms and see due dates
    • Make payments, see payment & tuition details
    • Request a Kid Check and see Kid Check history
  • Electronic forms are available by clicking the "Forms" heading at the bottom of the screen.  Simply click on the pencil icon to the right to complete the respective form.  *Once a form has been submitted and accepted you'll see the date listed next to it.  Please allow for 24-48 hours processing time during the busy spring season
  • Access printed or CIT forms by clicking on the respective tab under the "Forms" heading.
  • Navigate back to the opening page by clicking the "Back" button at the top right corner of the screen.
In addition to the basic navigation above, it's important to remember the following when using your online account.
  • Parent Information, Address Information, Emergency Contact and Parent Travel information is consistent for the family, no matter how many daughters you have attending camp.  If you update this information in one place, it will update it in all aspects of your daughters' records, ensuring we have consistent and up-to-date information.
  • All other forms are for each individual camper or CIT.  Make sure to complete individual forms for each daughter, if you have more than one camper.
  • You'll find reminder pop-ups for any forms that require additional information like insurance details.  This will help streamline the form completion process.
  • Please don't forget to provide a list of medications, allergies, etc. if you mark that your daughter takes medications, has allergies, etc.  Having detailed information helps ensure the proper care of your daughter while she's at camp.
As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Live2Adventure
Fernwood Cove's Teen Adventure Program

Today's world demands that young adults have a strong grasp of communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.  Developing these skills, among others, in a hands-on learning environment is highly sought in the teen years.  Finding teen programs that focus on the development of important life skills in a safe, supportive, girl-focused environment can be difficult.  Until now.

Fernwood Cove's Live2Adventure program provides girls ages 15 -17 the opportunity to develop lifelong skills in decision making, leadership, communication, and collaboration, while exploring the North Maine Woods.  The three and a half week adventure program encompasses hiking, paddling, and biking- all under the watchful eye of seasoned and trained leaders.  Parents can rest assured that the attention to detail and individualized attention that they've grown to expect from Fernwood Cove programs will continue into all aspects of the Live2Adventure program.

The Live2Adventure programs are open to girls, ages 15-17...invite a friend and share this program with friends outside of your Fernwood Cove family!  Contact us for more information or to enroll!

"Life is Good" co-founder, John Jacobs, recently delivered a keynote address at the ACA Tri-State Camp Conference, in which Alicia, Beigette, and Caroline were in attendance.  During his address he shared the story of "Life is Good" and the impact that he and his brother, Bert, now hope to have on the world.  Their purpose is to "spread the power of optimism"...something that connects deeply to the values of Fernwood Cove.  Enjoy their newly released book to learn more about "Life is Good", spread some optimism, and re-connect with the Fernwood Cove mantra of "working in possibilities."
