Natural Gas Crucial to Texas Schoolchildren
Natural gas and oil wells, pipelines, utilities, and processing plants generate significant local property taxes for public schools in Texas.  Over 80% of school districts received more than a quarter of their property tax revenue from natural gas and oil production/distribution in 2015, according to preliminary data from the Comptroller. In addition, gas and oil royalties flow into the Permanent School Fund, which is constitutionally dedicated to funding education in Texas.
"Our life expectancy, air quality, incomes and access to clean water have increased significantly over the past centuries because of energy, and much of it is produced here in Texas", said Jason Isaac, President of the Texas Natural Gas Foundation (
TXNG). "This is one of the most important messages for our children to hear, because to fully appreciate and understand energy production in Texas, our children need to know how it impacts their lives; they should be proud of their state for making the world a better place."
