March 22, 2016: Going Backwards

Dear <<First Name>>,

So they said to one another, "Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt." Numbers 14:4

Today's reading reminded me of something that crops up in my heart from time to time. It is the tendency of my thoughts to want to pull back to some time in my life where there was less stress and responsibility. The problem is that my memories are over-simplified thoughts of a different stress and responsibility. Most seasons of life have pressure. The Israelites would rather trade the memory of their pressure of slavery in Egypt to the perceived pressure of warfare (even with God fighting for them).

We do the same thing. As we face an uncertain or pressurized future, we want to go back... but there is no going back my friends. There is going forward or simply, "stuck where you are." So, what should we do when we are looking in the rear view mirror and tempted to put our gear in reverse?

First, focus on God, not your circumstances. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the "Author" and "Finisher."

Second, recount His promises. His plans for our future, far supersede our dim memories of our past.

Third, choose faith. Faith is the element that drives us forward to the adventure God has for us. It is easy to stop. It takes faith to see what God sees.

Don't give in to the lie of regression. There is no time when you will meet the Lord like the present. He will take you to a better future if you let Him. Egypt is gone forever.

Here is today's reading.

Tuesday

Love,

Pastor Stuart
