Discussion with Dr. Mark Hernandez, CMO of the Community Care Collaborative (CCC): Special guest Dr. Mark Hernandez shared the history, structure, goals, and future plans of the Community Care Collaborative, a nonprofit established by Central Health and Seton in 2013 to provide a framework for implementing the Texas 1115 Medicaid Waiver and an integrated delivery system (IDS) for the uninsured and underinsured populations of Travis County. Member Discussion on One Voice's Diversity Initiative: Through One Voice's strategic planning, discussions around the need to diversify and retain a diversity of nonprofit leaders, staff, and board members emerged as a key issue that members would like to address. The Standards Committee is seeking to create a safe place for members to address diversity on an ongoing basis and provide tools for conversations and practical implementation. At the meeting, OVCT member DeWayne Street presented the following powerpoint. The next steps of this initiative are to:
1) Administer an online needs assessment of members to drive future discussions and activities. The link to complete the assessment will be sent out soon and all members are encouraged to respond. Individual responses will be confidential; all will be aggregated.
2) Form a Diversity Task Force to lead the initiative. If you are interested in participating in the Diversity Task Force and did not sign up at the meeting, email info@onevoicecentraltx.org.

How did you become interested in this work?
I started doing work in sexual and domestic violence in the late 80’s. I also did some work with homeless and runaway youth. I realized my passion included women’s issues as well as advocacy for children. I started as a volunteer for the Austin Rape Crisis Center and then became an intern at the Center for Battered Women. Very quickly after I finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work I knew I needed to get back into the field of violence against women. I was hired in the Children’s program at Center for Battered Women in 1990.

Upcoming Community Conversations to Inform Austin's Housing Plan

(1) How might we ensure our children can afford to live in Austin?
(2) Where should Austinites who work hard – cooking food, watching your children, and caring for the sick – be able to afford to live?
(3) The cost of housing is inter-connected with City decisions around job access, parking, permitting, and housing types allowed. For City leaders, doing nothing different is not an option. So, which changes can you live with?

Events take place from March 29th to April 28th. See this map of meeting locations and find one near you. These are come-and-go events. You can stop by at any time.
