All children are artists and scientists. They are natural explorers. Give them opportunities, a balance of direction and space, and just let them do it. As we have seen with our young scholars, art can be a uniting, constructive means for resolving conflict, managing stress, and expressing oneself positively. The arts can also provide a career path, whether it’s in the performing arts, or in a creative field such as architecture or fashion design. Most importantly, the arts are a significant source of education in which math, literacy, and other academic skills are being practiced. Though research has supported these claims, we frankly do not need to justify the value of the arts. Just look around and see that art is a necessary and vital part of our existence!
Since 2012, Freedom Arts & Education Center has been committed to empowering youth. We focus on providing relevant arts education all throughout the St. Louis area, but spend most of our time making art, doing homework, and learning life skills with our scholars, a group of young people living in northwest St. Louis City. Our mission is to empower them to become the highly creative, literate, passionate, independent thinkers they are capable of becoming. It’s time for that mission to expand. This year we are focused on finding a home, the official Freedom Arts & Education Center. We currently operate out of a shared space 12 miles from our scholars’ community which limits our time and flexibility within our programs. We have found several available commercial spaces along Olive Boulevard in University City, which is one of the most diverse parts of St. Louis and only 2 miles from our scholars’ neighborhood. Having our own space will provide a safe haven for our scholars to experience and grow on a daily basis. It will also be a community arts space for working artists to create, rehearse, and perform.
Join our  mission. Be a part of these young people’s lives by becoming a monthly donor so we can provide them with all of the resources necessary to accomplish their goals. We believe everyone has a role in making our world a better place. For us, it's doing the work with our scholars full time. For others, it’s through sharing their hard earned financial resources. We're asking you to take on the role of financially supporting us on a monthly basis so we can take our role to that next level. Our role cannot happen without yours!
