Steel City Academy will empower the students of Gary with the most rigorous academic skills, cultural fluency, and depth of character so they can choose from boundless opportunities and strengthen the community of Gary.

Steel City Power

When Steel City students graduate, they will not just be prepared for college -- they will be prepared to lead. Each of us has the power to lead, and we love imagining all the amazing ways Steel City students will lead for Gary, Northwest Indiana, and beyond. During this time when we are selecting our next political leaders, it underscores how important it is that we learn to use our power in order to make the world better. It makes Steel City's core value of POWER seem especially relevant.

POWER: We seek to make the world a better place. We embrace the opportunities where our skills and talents allow us to lead, and honor those opportunities by acting ethically and justly.

Already Steel City has benefited from the powerful leadership of our many supporters. Community members are contributing their skills and talents to ensure that Steel City Academy becomes the school that kids and families in Gary deserve.

What We're Up To

It's been a great month at Steel City Academy! We are gearing up for construction work on our building in the next month. Teacher hiring is well underway and we look forward to introducing you to our new teachers. Finally, we are enrolling students!

The founding team is working around the clock recruiting teachers at job fairs, hosting open houses at the school, knocking on doors, talking to families at the flea market, and accepting donated furniture for our school.

If you are interested in helping with our efforts, whether your talents and skills lend themselves to community engagement or good old-fashioned manual labor, please get involved. Your help is needed and appreciated!

Steel City is thrilled to receive ArcelorMittal's grant to implement Project Lead The Way's innovative engineering curriculum for the next three years. We are excited to make such a rigorous program a part of our high school program from the beginning. We are grateful to ArcelorMittal for their grant and look forward to working with them in the future to prepare our students for the local NWI economy, which depends on global skills.
