4YP Changes Chief Executives; Farewell Dawn, Hello Tibbs
On 8th April 2016, Dawn Henry celebrated her last day as Chief Executive of Suffolk Young People’s Health Project.
This follows an incredible 14 years at the helm of the charity, where Dawn has worked tirelessly with a fantastic team of staff, Trustees, and volunteers to establish and make the organisation the success it is today.
We will all be sad to see Dawn leave, and wish her all the best for her short career break, where she hopes to spend more time pursuing her passion for kayaking.
We are delighted to announce that the leadership of 4YP will continue with the appointment of Dawn’s successor, Tibbs Pinter, who commenced in post on 4th April 2016.
Tibbs has been a supporter of the charity for a number of years.  He has a substantial background in community engagement and development, diversity, and participation, as well as a wealth of skills and contacts.  His range of experience will, no doubt, greatly benefit both the organisation and those who use our services.  His focus will be on forging and strengthening partnerships, as well as developing and implementing strategic plans to assure 4YP’s success extends long into the future.
4YP Survey
With support from Healthwatch Suffolk, we’re going to be running a series of surveys asking young people for their thoughts and experiences of health and wellbeing issues in Suffolk.
This information will help us shape future services and projects.
So, if you’re aged 12-25 and living in Suffolk, we invite you to take the simple survey.
Paper copies are also available by calling Karl on 01473 252607 or emailing karl.dickinson@syphp.org.uk.
It’ll only take you a few minutes, but the information you provide will be invaluable.  Thank you.
Young Leader’s Interviewing Experience
I recently was given the opportunity to be on an interview panel for a potential new member of Staff for 4YP; this is something I was looking forward to.
In the run up to the interview I met with 4YP’s Operational Manager (Cherry Finch) to establish my role and responsibilities on the day.
As a Young Leader at 4YP I felt proud to be chosen to be part of the selection process for a new Admin Staff Member.  It gave me a sense of recognition and value as a person.
Although I felt nervous and unsure I soon settled into the role and confidently asked all questions that were set out for me.  I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was pleased with the candidate chosen.  I would be happy to be part of something like this again.  It made me feel happy and supported and gave me a sense of achievement.
Lucy, Young Leader
Did You Know...?
Volunteering is known to help young people gain skills proven to be important for life and work, and improve wellbeing.
Just 25% of young people in the East of England participate in volunteering, fundraising and campaigning, the lowest rate in the country, compared to a national rate of 40%.

4YP’s Make An Impact group aims to change this.  If you want to get involved with volunteering, call a 4YP Young People’s Worker for more information on 01473 252607.
Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual are terms that most people are familiar with, but they aren't the only sexual orientations that exist in today's world.
Some people believe sexual identity can and does change throughout your life.  Yet, people are still being defined and squeezed into rigid tick boxes of discreet groups, or ticking the ‘Other’ box which often comes with the feeling of being different, separate and unequal.
Does a tick in a box really tell us about who the person is, what lives they lead, or what support they might need?
Feel free to seek confidential support and advice from the 4YP Young People’s Workers or contact ‘Outreach Youth’ For gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people at www.outreachyouth.org.uk
Shelley’s Fundraising Dinner 2016
Our fourth annual fundraising dinner was held at Shelley’s Restaurant, Suffolk New College on Wednesday 02 March 2016.
This was once again a great success!  Charity Patron, Nicky Hunt, took some valuable time out of her training regime – where she is readying for the Olympic qualifiers – to compere the evening.  And an excellent job she did!
Thanks to the support of Nicky, numerous Ipswich-based organisations who donated tombola prizes, and the 65 guests who dined with us on the night, the event raised an incredible £2,668.
The College catering and hospitality students and staff also did an excellent job of preparing and serving the excellent food, for which we are very grateful.
All monies raised will go directly to service delivery, to support local young people.
Young Person’s Testimonial , by Laine
4YP is a wonderful place for  young people to go. They have helped me in many ways. They have helped me with understanding of life and the meaning of it. Also another big thing they have helped me change is being able to talk to new people and my communication skills.
A big part of what they do is their counselling, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who feels like they are struggling.
One amazing opportunity I had was being asked to help out with the interviews for a new administration role.
One of the best parts of that was having to wear a suit which they let me keep, it felt so good to be looking smart and respectable. It was so nice of them to ask me to help them out and feel like part of 4YP.
To top it all off, the staff that work here are all so friendly and very supporting and are willing to help you no matter what the problem is.
Girls Night
2016 at 4YP has kicked off with a BANG! So far we have enjoyed a quiz and bingo night, MOCKtail making, testing out our nail art skills, creative self expression through drama and art, team building activities and giving some new recipes a go in the kitchen!
The girls have been learning and celebrating the similarities and differences amongst the group. Realising that we all have our ups and downs…. and a chat with the ladies can make everything seem that little bit better.
