Dispatch

Please join us for our “First Thursday” opening reception with the artists, April 7, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Cris Bruch and Anders Bergstrom will give informal walking tours of their exhibitions beginning at noon, Saturday, April 9.

Greg Kucera Gallery is pleased to announce our first solo exhibition of work by Seattle artist Cris Bruch.  Following Others Who Were Here, his recent exhibition at Frye Art Museum, the artist continues his exploration of his family’s history of perseverance as farmers in mid-western United States in the early 20th century.

“This work expands on ideas and inquiries I have pursued since 2012, to understand the landscape of my ancestors and its effect on generations hence. With the objects in this exhibition I am seeking a way to reflect, through sculpture, thoughts about work and aspiration, memory in the context of history and the profound impact of a specific landscape and weather on how one views the world."       —Cris Bruch

Anders Bergstrom

April 7 - May 21, 2016

Prints

Bergstrom’s prints are painstaking simulations of the common brown paper bag. Each jagged edge, creased fold, and greasy stain is an homage to this everyday object that we usually take for granted. Though the work may appear at first to be readymade, closer inspection reveals the printmaking techniques used to recreate each detail.
“My work is influenced by my studies in both Sociology and Fine Art; often reflecting on everyday discarded or abandoned objects. Street detritus, beer cans, stacks of newspapers, paper bags are subjects worthy of serious investigation. I like to explore the ordinary, searching for something new to be discovered.”
—Anders Bergstrom

ANDERS BERGSTROM, BROWN BAG TEST, 2014 unique drypoint and softground etching with surface roll on Akatosashi paper 3.5 x 2 x 1.25 inches

ANDERS BERGSTROM, GREASE BAG, PINNED, 2013, nine layer reduction woodcut, polymer and steel, hand cut and folded 7 x 10.5 inches, edition of 7
