Dear <<First Name>>

Hi and welcome to the Tasmania Performs quarterly update.

Over the next three months we will have three productions on tour.  Performer Jeff Michel workshopped the idea for his first play at our 2014 Artists Residency and after various developments it has been produced by Blue Cow Theatre. Next week it starts a nine venue Tasmania Performs state-wide tour.  In May, Justus Neumann’s award winning work “Alzheimer Symphony” opens in Canberra and “As We Forgive” by Tom Holloway, featuring Robert Jarman, has a season at the Griffin Theatre in Sydney. Writer Nathan Maynard has developed the second draft of his play “The Season”  with Dramaturg Peter Matheson and  Glen Murry, who workshopped his production concept BABEL at the 2015 Tasmania Performs Residency has, with the support of Ten Days,  just secured Major Festivals Initiative seed funding.

At the Tasmanian Theatre Awards,  the “Errols”,  in the Professional Category: Robert Jarman won Best Actor and Tom Holloway Best Writer for As We Forgive and the work of  Tasmania Performs was acknowledged with the Impresario Award.

In my role as Senior Producer, I often spend time on various national selection panels. During this quarter I will assess applications for the Victorian Showcase, APACA Performing Arts Exchange and the National Dance Awards. This is a great way to make sure that the best Tasmanian work is included in these activities.

Sadly, next week, Tasmania Performs farewells Associate Producer Jen Cramer.  Most of you will know her as the backbone of stage management and production for Tasmanian Theatre and festivals. Renowned for her precision, reliability and work ethic, after 20 years Jen has decided to take a break and has accepted a position with Inland Fisheries. Apart recent week with Tasmania Performs, Jen has trained a generation of technicians, was operations manager for the Theatre Royal and Ten Days, stage managed more shows than you have had breakfasts and generally been an adored and valued member of the arts. I and many others will miss her greatly, especially when we need a props extraction, production schedule, freight consignment, floor mark up, contact sheet, incident report, prompt copy etc.

Fortunately we have been able to secure the services of the lovely Julie Waddington to fill the role. Julie brings extensive experience in theatre, admin, marketing and finance.

Best regards Annette Downs
