Hep Free NYC Program of the Month
Meet After Hours Project
Hector Quinones, Director of Social Services and Linkage to Care, tells us about After Hours Project and how to achieve a Hep Free NYC. Hector manages the NYC Hep C Peer Program at Afterhours and is an advisory board member of the NYC Hep C Task Force.
Describe a typical day at the After Hours Project’s Hep C Peer Navigation Program
Our Hep C navigation program conducts outreach and case finding activities with our syringe exchange program services at locations in Brooklyn communities where individuals at high risk for Hep C congregate. During these activities Hep C screenings are conducted and those individuals confirmed positive for Hep C are linked to primary care and treatment.

What’s your favorite Hep Free NYC moment?
For this year, it was our presentation at the Brooklyn Hep C Task Force meeting where we had two testimonials by clients who were successfully linked to care and completed treatment.
What do you think we need to achieve a Hep Free NYC?
Funding for community-based Hep C patient navigation and all-out efforts to re-engage known Hep C-positive clients out of care. In addition, easier access to treatment and lower cost of new medications.
