Our Plan: Our Future

A Neighbourhood Plan for Boughton Aluph, Eastwell & Goat Lees

Issue 7, March 2016

Welcome

Thank you for signing up for our Neighbourhood Plan newsletter.
We are a small group of volunteers working with the Parish Council on a Neighbourhood Plan for Boughton Aluph, Eastwell and Goat Lees. Neighbourhood Plans are a new way for local people to influence the planning and development of the area in which they live or work. Together, we will shape the future of our community.

Neighbourhood Plan Survey launched

Today marks another important step forward for our Neighbourhood Plan as we launch our Neighbourhood Plan Survey. We want you to tell us how you think our community should change and grow over the next 15 years. Our volunteers will be delivering copies of the survey to every home and business in our parish before Easter. They will return to collect your completed survey after 17 April.
We have all heard of plans to build 1000s of new homes in Ashford and to attract new businesses.  Our Neighbourhood Plan will allow us to choose where we want new homes, shops and offices to be built, to have our say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided.

We can only make this happen with your input and support. We need as many of you as possible to fill in the survey. This will ensure that our Neighbourhood Plan is based on a proper understanding of our area and of the views, wants and needs of local people and businesses. We ALL have the chance to influence future development in our area and YOUR opinion counts.

It will save us time and money if you are able to complete the survey online at www.parishplan.uk/2030.
Once adopted, our Neighbourhood Plan will become part of Ashford Borough Council’s statutory Local Plan to 2030 and will be used in making decisions on planning applications in our area. As a legal document it will carry real weight in planning decisions. Developers and local authority planners will have to take notice of it.
We all have busy lives but please spare half an hour to fill in the Neighbourhood Plan Survey and help to influence change and growth in our area over the next 15 years.
75% of households took part in a similar survey in Wye providing the essential information needed for their Neighbourhood Plan. Please help us to do just as well or even better here in our parish. Encourage family members, friends and neighbours to take part in the survey. We want to hear from all ages. The more responses we get the better we will be able to make our Neighbourhood Plan deliver the sort of future development that residents want and need.
It will take around 20-30 minutes to complete the survey. You do not have to give us your name and address but you will be asked to provide your postcode so we can see which part of the parish responses are coming from.

When will we hear the results of the survey?

The completed surveys will be analysed independently. You will be able to see the results at our community feedback events in May/June and on our website.
The results of the survey will enable us to prepare a draft Neighbourhood Plan. We expect this will be ready by the late summer. It will go through various stages of public consultation and independent examination. The final version will be put to a parish referendum. Our Neighbourhood Plan must be approved by public vote before it can come into effect.

You can submit your views on the Neighbourhood Plan at any time on at www.parishplan.uk.
