Growing Beyond Cyber
An online Gartner survey recently revealed the number of organizations adopting IoT will grow 50 percent in 2016, reaching 43 percent of organizations overall. As the Industrial and Consumer IoT adoption accelerates, so do the number of organizations grasping for a piece of the $300 billion in revenue that Gartner predicts to be up for grabs by 2020. Because the IoT is a complex ecosystem that is not yet dominated by any major players, we are experiencing a loose network of interacting products and services, many of which are CyberTECH Members, Partners, and Supporters.
The survey also found that the biggest IoT technology challenges for those that have already implemented IoT are cybersecurity, integration and managing business requirements.
It is clear from recent headlines that cybersecurity concerns, and investments, are here to stay. According to a recent story in Investors Business Daily, IT security spending will soar to $101 billion in 2018 and will reach $170 billion by 2020.
“Interest in security technologies is increasingly driven by elements of digital business, particularly cloud, mobile computing and now also the Internet of Things, as well as by the sophisticated and high-impact nature of advanced targeted attacks," Elizabeth Kim, research analyst at Gartner, said in a statement with Forbes.
The need for additional protection is largely driven by the growing sophistication of attacks and the evolving risks that come with advances in new technologies like the IoT, drones, robotics, medical, auto, and other connected devices.
As we continue to approach the critical crossroads where security meets innovation, the CyberTECH Community has a considerable opportunity to connect cutting-edge technology experts with the security pros. In an effort to support this connection between the high tech and security industries, and in response to our large industry Partners such as Palo Alto Networks, Red Hat Analytics, Sysorex, FICO Decisions, Intel, AT&T and the Toronto Stock Exchange, CyberTECH has made several recent developments including:
- The expansion into Coworking with NEST to support a broader community and deliver more member value.
- Supporting an established Video Game Developer Community as part of our Workforce Development Initiatives.
- Partnering with Wireless Health Hub to support Biomedical, Healthcare and IoT Startups.
We appreciate the support of our partners and sponsors and look forward to continuing our collaboration with the cybersecurity and growing technology communities.
