SONGS YOU KNOW BY HEART
A Simple Guide for Using Music in Dementia Care
View this email in your browser

Greetings,

Has dementia, including Alzheimer’s touched your life or that of a family member or friend?

Are you a caregiver, family member or life enrichment professional caring for someone with dementia?

Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s. Friends and family of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias provide billions (yes, you read that right) hours of unpaid care each year. And the toll of caregiving increases stress and often times leads to depression.

Using music in dementia care offers hope.

But what if you’re not a musician and what if you’re short on time and energy?

My new book “Songs You Know By Heart: A Simple Guide for Using Music in Dementia Care” can help.
This easy to use guide offers simple strategies and tips for harnessing the power of music to improve the quality of life for both the caregiver and the person receiving care.

Music offers the opportunity to awaken memories, bring happiness, and truly connect, all in a fun and meaningful activity. It can make a challenging job of caregiving easier and provide moments of joy for everyone by allowing the focus to be on what people can do rather than on the support they need.

“Songs You Know By Heart” has step by step directions and personal stories. The guide includes an important contribution from leading dementia care specialist Teepa Snow, as well as my recording of 18 favorite sing along songs. You can try one idea or try them all.

Get your copy here. Then put on the music and get ready for some joy!

Thank you in advance for the opportunity to support you as you bring music into your life and the life of those you care for.

Musically yours,
Mary Sue Wilkinson

PS. I remember when my father-in-law had dementia and could no longer communicate with us. Those were sad days. It was hard to lose our connection to him. But when I brought my guitar and sang the songs he knew and loved he came alive. He sang every word in perfect harmony. It was clear how much he enjoyed it and how meaningful it was for both of us to be able to connect. My hope is for music to offer the same hope and connection for you.
