Spring 2016

Dear <<First name*>>–

Ciao from Croatia!

Ruth and I are leading another private photography tour here over the next couple of weeks. One of our favorite places for photography, culture, food and wine. Above is a photo from Plitvice Lakes National Park and to the right is a photo of me working in Zadar with one of our clients.

(Get in touch if you're interested in booking a European photo tour for yourself!)

We're welcoming Spring back home in the UK, as well. This past winter has been very busy—and productive—for us. Before Christmas, I had my first exhibition in London, at the Brick Lane Gallery and since the start of the new year things have been running full-tilt.

I've continued developing my photography and art collections along with project work on several custom commissions from private collectors in Europe; most notably a couple of large installations for collectors in Italy and Spain. My U.S. studio is going strong, too, with recent installations in Philadelphia and Canada and exhibitions in both the UK and the US.

In this issue of eyelevel you'll learn about my current and upcoming exhibitions, read an inspiring interview with a rising star in the hospitality design world, find out about my new representation in London and Denver and much more... Thanks for being here!

All my best –

And now, the news ...

Current Exhibitions

Open 27 – Leicester

I have two abstract mixed media works on display in the renowned annual exhibition produced by the Leicester City Council. Open 27 is held at the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, a venerable venue in the heart of the city. The show has been very well produced! If you're in the area, stop by and check it out! Runs through Sunday 8th May.

The Fine Art of Photography – Plymouth, Massachusetts

I also have two photographic prints in a group show at the Plymouth Center for Fine Arts. The selected images are scenics; one from Paradise Divide, Colorado and another from Fountains Abbey in England (shown at right). This show runs through Saturday May 14.

Upcoming Art Festival at Castle Ashby

I'll have a stand displaying my abstract mixed media work at the art and craft festival at Castle Ashby Gardens in Northampton, England over the Late May Bank Holiday, Sunday 29th & Monday 30th May.

Hand made UK crafts from some of the country’s finest designer makers: Art, ceramics, felting, fabric art, glass work, handbags, jewellery, knitwear, leather, metal work, paper craft, photography, silk, textiles and wood & lots more…

Designer Spotlight: Jenni Jane Hellstern

My latest episode of Designer Spotlight features an interview with Jenni Jane Hellstern, whom I recently met at an event sponsored by the NEWH United Kingdom.

An American interior designer who recently relocated to the UK, Jenni Jane was named as one of Boutique Design magazine’s esteemed Boutique 18 for 2016 so I was thrilled when she graciously accepted my invitation for an interview.

Her experience and insight are inspiring for many people developing careers in the creative fields, especially hospitality design.

Introducing CoalsonCreative.com

You might know that I began my career as a graphic designer in the late 1980s. For nearly three decades now, I’ve produced design for print and web—plus some digital video editing and computer animation—for all types of businesses, large and small.

Around 2003, I stepped away from doing commercial design work to focus on fine art photography. But over the years I’ve still continued to do some design jobs, here and there, for select clients.

Recently I've decided to again offer my complete set of creative services for clients. I’ve set up a new web site at CoalsonCreative.com with essential details (I’ll be adding more content to this site soon).

Drop me a line if you need
  • logos, branding and identity systems design
  • photo retouching, editing and special effects
  • brochures, advertising and other printed collateral
  • web sites, email marketing, etc.
I’ll be more than happy to discuss your project!

Presentation at Rotary Loughborough

In March 2016, I was honored to be invited to give a presentation about my art and creative business to the Rotary Club of Loughborough, England. I enjoyed meeting all the members and other guests and we enjoyed a great curry lunch together. After the meal I gave a 20-minute presentation with an overview of my artistic processes and the services I provide for clients, mainly in the hospitality business.

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It’s a respected organization doing great work and I’m pleased to support their efforts.

If you’d like to discuss the possibility of my presenting to your group, please contact me here.

Interview for Exhibitions Without Walls

I was recently interviewed by Ed Wedman at Exhibitions Without Walls, an international organization that offers Photographers and Digital Artists the chance to grow and develop professionally.

Ed asked some great questions about my inspiration and process and I hope you'll enjoy the article.

New Work

I've been producing and releasing lots of new work lately, especially abstract photography.

At right is one example. This is a photograph I made during a recent trip to Amsterdam, titled Mosaic Veil.

As with all my work, this is available as a fine art print in any size and on any material.
