Issue #03    |    March 2016

Message from the President

We are lucky to have so many grandparents and parents who are authentically passionate about the success of students at Edison. As you can see from our newsletter, we have accomplished a great deal, but still have many more activities and fundraising goals to hit as we finish off the school year. If you haven't yet participated with us - it's not too late! Family involvement shows your students you are invested in them, that they matter, their education matters, and their school is an important place worthy of putting in time and effort. We are so thankful for the many families already involved with us, and we encourage you to join in - attend PTO meetings, or volunteer for an activity so Edison and its students can be even stronger!

Amy Schaum
Edison PTO President

  • Published our second electronic newsletter
  • Made nearly $2,000 from the World's Finest chocolate fundraiser, $114 from Chipotle
  • Popped a lot of popcorn for Popcorn Day

Columbus Zoo Assembly

Edison PTO is hosting the Columbus Zoo. This will be an educational assembly for all students at Edison on March 21
Eat out for Edison on March 22
We will be doing a restaurant night at Chuck E. Cheese's. Mention you are with Edison Elementary when you arrive. This would be a great way to reward your student for their hard work during 3rd Quarter!

Marco's Box Nights Return!
April 12 and 13

The December pizza box night was such a success, students will be decorating plain pizza boxes once again! If you order pizza on April 12 or April 13 from Marco's in Willoughby, be sure to note your student's name in the comment box online so you can receive your meal in the unique box your child created. We enjoyed getting many of your photos via the PTO Facebook page. The boxes are a fun conversation piece and something that will make your child so proud. Please note that XL pizzas will not fit into the boxes, but you will still receive the decorated box.
Save the Dates - April 20 & 21
Pastries with Parents will be an event where parents can come to Edison to enjoy a light breakfast with their student. We will host four sessions dependent on students last names.
(If you have multiple children with different last names, please choose the 1 time that works best.)
A-E April 20 7:30am to 8:00am
F-L April 20 8:15am to 8:45am
M-R April 21 7:30am to 8:00am
S-Z April 21 8:15am to 8:45am

We do need some help with the event - volunteer sign ups can be found HERE.

Popcorn Days:
April 27 & 28

Time for another popcorn day in April! For 25 cents, your students will get a fresh bag of popcorn on either 4/27 or 4/28 (depending on grade) A letter will be sent home in advance of the event to give you a chance to send money in. Volunteers are needed for this event - sign up here.

Carnival - April 30

This is a fun tradition at Edison. We are planning to have Carnival on Saturday, April 30. From early coordination, to set-up, game operators, ticket sellers, concession helpers - we need MANY VOLUNTEERS to help make this a success. If you'd like to help with this event, please SIGN-UP. We are in need of one more coordinator and lots of help for set-up and to work various posts the day of the carnival.

Plant Sale

The end of the 3rd Quarter means spring is here and a perfect time to start planning out our gardens and landscapes. It's also a perfect time to think of Edison's PTO Plant Sale! Forget the big box store - you can purchase high quality plants and support the Edison community through the Plant Sale. Sale begins on May 11, but the PTO needs volunteers now to help coordinate this always-popular event. If you're interested in helping out, please click VOLUNTEER.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

The T in PTO stands for Teachers. Edison's teachers are a fundamental part of our organization. They dedicate themselves to enriching the lives of our children and our entire community. To honor our hard-working Edison teachers, the PTO will host its annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on May 3. Consider volunteering to serve the teachers who serve our children. Sign-up sheet can be found HERE.

Field Day

You can bet the kids will be excited when they find out what happens on May 18. It's Edison Field Day, when the kids get to spend an entire half of their school day playing fun games and engaging in a little friendly intramural competition. In the morning, grades 3-5 will take the playgrounds by storm and in the afternoon, the little kids in grades K-2 will have THE. BEST. DAY. EVER! If you want to get out and have some fun too, you can sign up to volunteer HERE.
