Later in the evening at the business meeting, board members received an update on the timeline for the project by ICS Consulting. The area around Vaughan Field is expected to be fenced off by the end of this week as the renovations begin. The new and improved Vaughan Field is expected to be ready for use in mid-August. Board Saves $1.619 Million for Taxpayers by Refinancing Bonds

In consultation with the district's financial advisor Mike Hoheisel and Director of Finance Mike Burlager, the Board took action to refinance bonds purchased in 2008 at today's lower rates. This action is expected to save the taxpayers of Shakopee approximately $1.619 million, beginning with residents' 2018 payable taxes.

Board Chair Reggie Bowerman noted that the Board has taken this action several times over the past four years and in doing so has saved the taxpayers of Shakopee more than $11.5 million.

"This is an important action we are asking the Board to take tonight, because it directly affects our taxpayers in a positive way," Superintendent Rod Thompson said.

CAPS Students Present Academy Logo Design Ideas

The Board heard a presentation from Communications Specialist Denise Doran as well as Casey Sanders, Chiny Soukhoummalay, and Jade Tran, who are all high school students enrolled in the Shakopee CAPS digital design program, about work they have done to develop potential logos for the Academies of Shakopee. The students received some good feedback from the Board and will continue to revise and refine their designs before bringing them back to the School Board for approval at a later date.

Instructional Technology Update

Director of Instructional Technology, Bryan Drozd, gave the Board an update on how his department plans to roll-out iPad and MacBook devices to students for the 2016-17 school year. After receiving some feedback, Drozd stated that his team would make it a priority to have all devices in students' hands by the end of the first week of school in the Fall of 2016.
