A Note from Katie

The clocks are all changed, I am loving the extra hour of light, and the sweetness of Spring is just around the corner here at the Katie Brown Workshop.

It has been so long since I have written, and so much has happened that it is difficult to know where to even start. Lets just say in that time, I have moved my family from one coast to another, and back, launched and served as Editor in Chief for Yahoo Makers, and I bought and renovated a few homes, and added a half a dozen chickens to our growing family of animals. In that time I also missed writing this newsletter and sharing with you. So what better time of the year to get back at.

Here is something I love to do with Springs first flowers.

  Posey Placemat

Materials:
Clear, double-sided 16 x 20-inch Plexiglas frame
Fresh flowers

Steps:
  1. Unclip and separate Plexiglas.
  2. Put one piece of Plexiglas on a flat surface.
  3. Arrange flowers on Plexiglas as desired.
  4. Reattach the top sheet of the frame.

Hints
Daisies, pansies and dahlias press well. Look for flat, open flowers, rather than tall, closed flowers like roses.
Pre-press flowers in a book to create a flatter surface.
Make sure you’ll be able to see the majority of the flowers once the plate is placed on the mat.
