Older women still most at risk of dying from asthma
We are urging middle-aged and older women with asthma to take action to manage their condition as new ABS data shows that women aged over 55 continue to be most at risk of dying from asthma.
In total, 419 asthma-related deaths were recorded in Australia in 2014, comprising 277 females and 142 males. The overall figure was up slightly from 389 deaths in 2013, probably in line with the ageing population.
Dr Jonathan Burdon AM, our Chairman, said the toll is still a concern, especially for older women with asthma. "Middle-aged women were twice as likely to die from asthma than men, with those over 75 almost three times more likely to die than men of the same age."

The Centre of Excellence in Severe Asthma is hosting a webinar on Stratified Medicines in Severe Asthma on 8 April.
