Haircuts by Children
and Other Evidence for a New Social Contract
Coach House Books is publishing Artistic & Research Director Darren O'Donnell's new book in December. Haircuts by Children and Other Evidence for a New Social Contract examines the role of children and young people and proposes their radical inclusion in all matters affecting them. Which is pretty much everything. Haircuts by Children is a practical proposal for the inclusion of children in as many realms as possible, not only as an expression of their rights, but as a way to intervene in the world and to disrupt the stark economic inequalities perpetuated by same old same old. Deeply practical and wildly whimsical, Haircuts by Children might actually make total sense. To purchase the book, keep an eye on Coach House Books and Mammalian's " Objects" page.

Mammalian and Beyonce
Together with Beyonce, Black Lives Matter, Harry Belafonte, and Steve McQueen, we've made San Francisco's Yeruba Beuna Center's 100 list, an annual big-up of the creative minds that inspire their work and who they feel are asking the questions and making the provocations that will shape the future of culture. Thanks for the love, people. The feeling's mutual.

Teentalitarianism at the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum, Germany
We premiered a new project, Teentalitarianism, at the Ruhrtriennale this August - for seven weeks, teens took over the festival and ran a totalitarian 'teen state'. Adults had to abide by teen rules, watch their favourite internet videos, and answer their questions about sex. Teentalitarianism involved 35 youth we've worked with over the last four years in the Ruhr region - and 11 Toronto teens joined them in August for a Mammalian youth summit like we've never seen. Directed by Darren O'Donnell, Jana Eiting, and Jenna Winter, with support from intern Kiera O'Brien and the rad Torontonians.
